So I finally found the most popular (and oldest) FF forum on the internet and I wanted some people to see what I thought about the series, but I do love forums so hey guys post 2:

The first final fantasy game I got was for the PSX, and it was found packaged with Chrono Trigger, with Final Fantasy Chronicles. (which, wtf, is only one actual FF game) But anyway, I didn't let how horribly I sucked at that deter me and actually am a huge fan of the series.

Anyway, Let's get to it.

Final Fantasy 1 - GBA

The only Final Fantasy game I have beaten so far. My playthrough took about 18 hours I believe, but when I checked my guys were pretty much maxed out and very good. I loved this game for its simplicity really, I want to someday replay it on original NES to see how long it takes.

What I remember most was how overpowered my main character (Red Mage) was throughout the battles. I pretty much would grind up a bit and he would rape everything's face enormous spell damage.

Final Fantasy 2 - GBA

Got lost, gave up about 5 hours in. Was too confused and didn't have the attention span to look anything up or just stick with it. I'll come back to that one a lot further down the road because I didn't really find much fun in it (YET!)

Final Fantasy 3 - NDS

The one that is bringing back the fun right now. I'm looking at my DS waiting to play it right this second because it is becoming so fun. I've got a long way to go, but I just saved the Vikings after Professor Dragonfuck chomped away 45 minutes of progress because I decided to get on a boat. I need to listen to NPC's more when I play this series, lol.

Final Fantasy IV:

The first one I ever played, and probably sunk in about 20 to 30 (maybe 40) hours of confused struggling. I could have GameFAQs'd the whole thing, but there's no fun or honor in that. I was 13 or 14 when I got it, played the shit out of it when I was bored of CT, but never really was able to get anywhere in it. It may come after 3, but I think I have another title in the series in mind.

Final Fantasy V

Probably going to do this one on PSX, but haven't touched it yet.

Final Fantasy VI

Can't wait to "change party members" but it still sits in wait. I don't own this either.

Final Fantasy VII

Had the game in my possession, it raised in value so I sold it. I'll rebuy this one and play it. I read on this forum that only a small, vocal minority think it is the best. I know exactly how it plays and even parts of the story so I'm inclined to say that this will never beat my favorite.

Final Fantasy 8/9

Haven't managed to buy either but very, very excited for these games. Can't wait to see if 7, 8, or 9 manages to be one of my favorites.

Final Fantasy X

One of my favorites, got stuck on a mountain against Sepheroth (?) and wasn't quite able to grind it out. Gonna replay it from the beginning, or just play my buddy's file who just got past blitzball and probably won't touch it ever again.

Final Fantasy XI

Online, never played it. Looking forward to XIV tho.

Final Fantasy XII

Personal favorite, ~30 hours in, but my sister has the memory card somewhere in her dorm where she goes to college, or its back at our parents house. I love this game and I can't wait to finish it, I just want to finish 3 before anything else.

Final Fantasy XIII

Own it, haven't played it because people tell me it is too linear or just say "It sucks."

I've also beaten FFTA, and FFTA2 is about 4 or 5 hours away from being done. Now that I think of it that one will probably finished off soon too.

I truly love this series though, I hope I can finish 1-10 multiple times with X, X-2, XII, with XIII-2 in there as well.

It's refreshing to see people playing the FF games for their first time!

I have to say FFVI is and probably always will be my favourite of all time - whether that's due to childhood nostalgia (and being my first FF game) or the fact that it's such a god damn good game I don't know. I highly recommend playing the SNES version - the PSX version has slower loading times (which is probably fine if you've never played the SNES version), the PS3/PSN version is a direct port of the PSX one, and thus carries the same loading times, and the GBA one really butchered the music. Actually, as long as you don't play the GBA version you're in for a treat.

FFVII and FFIX fight for second place - both the aforementioned games have awesome intros, but I'm probably leaning towards FFIX because I loved the variety of characters and generally playful theme to the whole thing. I'm not a massive fan of the more stale games like FFVIII, which is why that's near the bottom of my list. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I've started going through the games again recently, this time with the aid of a guide to see what I missed out the first time round.

*EDIT*

There's another great FF game that I should mention - Mystic Quest for the SNES. It's actually not really an "FF" game in the strictest of senses (it's a spin-off), but through the simplicity of the combat system and storyline, coupled with some nifty action/adventure elements, I find it to be quite a gem. I think it's had bad reception in the past because of its comparison to other FF games, but if you take that out of the equation, I think it's a fun game.

What makes FFIV your favorite? I kept getting lost and tired of sucking at it so badly, haha.
