Is it just me?

the about 5 times I can give rep are never enough for me.
I try to rep everytime I dl something or read a helpful or funny comment, but I can't, with the amount of rep now.
Next day there are other things so I kind of have to randomly pick something, which feels unfair to me.

So, is it just me?
I would love to be able to give rep more often!

Simply i can give a rep when i can see people help each other here.... that is a positive!!

Rep here is kinda pointless, unless we add something in the future that means the people with more rep get some kind of bonuses. Likes are far more useful till something like this is implemented.

likes might be more useful, but an instrument of appreciation is never pointless in my opinion :)

(I get the bonus of being appreciated when being repped, which is nice enough, for me...)

You can thank people and show your appreciation in the actual thread, though, too. The reason it's limited to 5 is to stop people from abusing the system and just handing out rep for someone giving you rep and so on.

"oh hey, thanks for the rep!! here's some rep because you gave me some"

Pretty sure i'm guilty of this in the past myself though :P

i can see where you are going.
And if this happens from time to time, oh well, there are worse things than trying to be nice because someone was nice to you though ;)

(thinking about the "let's give some rep" thread here too)

I'd rather see paybacks in terms of rep than with flaming, sort of.

it might help if we could CHOOSE an amount of rep (for example 10 points from 35 points that i can give?)
Just a thought...

I think this is a good idea. If you think the post is good but not great, you could give a lower amount of points, and if you really like the post and think it's just fantastic, you could give the maximum amount of points etc.

Rep is relative to your own amount of rep, the higher your rep, the more that's issued.

yes, jessie, i figured as much.

Now, if I had 25 points, it would be nice to be able to decide how many of these 25 points i might want to give to some post, i know there are some systems that allow choosing specific numbers of rep...?

....speaking of instruments of appreciation, a thanks button would be nice too maybe :D

My 2 cents about that:

1) The "Like" already functions as some sort of thank you.

2) Without the user actually thanking the uploader through a post, threads wouldn't get bumped->less chances people would notice something which might interest them->higher chances of links dying because of inactivity.
I've seen this happen for years over at the likes of EmuParadise, where the Thanks button was implemented. Links are already gone way too fast, let's not make it easier for them to die.

good point.

I was thinking of a german forum i know that has a thanks button too, and thanking indeed pushes the thread....
i have no clue what software they use though, forum looks different....

Gee, Sorei, I'm still trying to determine how the entire Rep Points thingy works. I saw a Sticky for a thread about same, a few years ago. I've been looking for that thread of late, using different terms. Thus far I haven't found it, just this thread...

Once upon a time, I noticed on my own notifications (?) page that there's a list for "Points Given" and "Points Received," etc. I don't understand the difference...

Like somebody mentioned above, do a pre-determined number of points entitle the points leader to grocery coupons at the end of the cycle? Or perhaps a Secret Decoder ring for use on this forum??

I'd prefer something more useful. Maybe offering a free hand-job* to the overall points winner at the end of each quarter (or year)? Or perhaps a proctological exam for male posters on this board over the age of 50??

But it's nice to know we can give up to 5 rep points on any given day. I did not know that.

* Hand-job - washing one's automobile by hand (for those of you with dirrrty minds)

Personally, I'd rather have a hand-job (a sparkly-clean auto) than a proctological exam, any day! But that's just me.

Rep me up Boiz

Also I'd like it if the system allowed me to just rep myself up constantly

Enjoy those 52 rep points.

---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:36 PM ----------

You can give out reputation to five people per 24 hours.
You have to give out rep to 4 people before you can give it to the same person again.
The amount of rep you have determines how much rep you give.

It should be lowered to 3.
They would be WAY more valuable then. ;)
