I know it might be a little early to ask but........Does anyone know how much it will cost? Or how good the graphics will be? I heard it would be around $500 but nobody would be able to buy it at that much, so I guess eventually the price will go down.

Someone should put this in General Gaming...
And the CELL processor crashed or something, so the release date's been put back. :(

ieatmako, i'd love to see where you're getting this info on CELL. Last I checked, Sony's production on CELL was well underway, fully tested, and they're currently making three factories to manufcature the thing.

The PlayStation3 will incorporate 3 CELL processors in parellel - meaning that your PS3 will have the graphics equivalent of a top-of-the-line SGi workstation. Sony is claiming they'll be able to have graphics of Jurassic Park standards.

Apart from that, not much else is known - the release date is sometime in 2006. This is usual for the 5 year cycle of consoles - PSX came out in 1996 (in Japan), PS2 in 2001, so the PS3 is pretty much a certainty for 2006 in Japan... though we might not get it until 2007 here.

Also guessing here, but I expect the price of the PS3 will be the same as the PS2 when it came out - that is, about US$500. It costs to be on the forefront of technology.

I'm pretty sure it is the X-Box and GameCube that came out in 2001, though. PS2 came out in 2000, both in Japan and North America.

Besides that, I only know what ExS already said.

Yeah he pretty much summed it all up but when the PS2 first came out in the U.S. it was $300 just so ya know.:D Also it will probably (not yet known) incorporate everything that the PSX is going to including DVD playback, DVD recorder, ethernet connection for not only playing games but watching movies and downloading songs and such things as that plus others that I cannot remember. Also you can check my thread called PS3 top secret info!

Landlord, he was looking for solid facts, not rumours - the only CONFIRMED facts about the PS3 is the release date, and the CELL specs.

Evad - my bad, i'm operating on European release dates: PS2 came out early 2001 here, and early 1996. I think 1995 and 2000 were the Japanese releases.

As for the initial price tag, it came out in Australia at AU$750 - which currently equates to about US$500. I'm just going off that.

Well it sounds really awesome...I just hope that the new systems won't go for graphics alone as some have tried. And that the FF's on the PS3 (I'm guessing there will be) will have as good a storyline that the older ones had.

Ultimately, it isn't up to the systems what the quality of games will be - the idea of upgrading systems is to give developers more freedom to realize their ideas.

Unfortunately, most corporations just see that as an excuse to make a game with pretty graphics and crappy gameplay.

I have no doubt FF will continue as good as it has been - FF10 was the best game in the series in my opinion. I honestly don't see this whole 'series degrading' thing everyone's going on about.

Ya thats true. I thought FFX was good. I wish it had chocobo racing but it had a good storyline and battle system which is the reason it became a greatest hit. So Final Fantasy will more than likely stay as awesome as it is right?
