Yes, I am a few years too late, but I have finally got around to picking up Vagrant Story, and I must say that it has exceeded my expectations and become one of my favourite RPGs, and possibly my favourite Playstation game. The battle system is like a breath of fresh air, and I cannot give praise to the story and translation enough.

Anybody else love this gem, or am I just crazy?

Definitely not crazy. Vagrant Story did everything right. The general gameplay is so great that I'd play for that alone......but I don't need to, because the story is absolutely fantastic. Easily one of the best games for the PS1.

Typo has exhausted his feelings for Vagrant Story so many times over the years. The best way for me to sum it up is for me to list everything I dislike about the game, rather than the things I thought were great.

And here goes...

And with that, Typo takes his leave, astonished that he was able to beat Cecil/Gandalf to this thread~.

Vagrant Story is brilliant - the only shortcoming is that you really have to devote yourself to it to enjoy it.

I'd love to see a Vagrant Story style game on next-generation hardware... but it will never happen. I'm just happy it actually got released over here...

I picked up Vagrant Story only a few months ago second hand for $15 AUD.

The thing that attracts me to this game is the clever storyline.
The politics and the ghastly crime that Sidney and his henchmen had commited.

The battle system is great, but repetitive after a while.

The graphics are fantastic and the cut scenes leave your PSX gasping for breath.

I do think this is a gem, only because it really comes into a league of it's own mixing RPG with 3D adventure.

I actually just purchased this game from half.com for a mighty $13 (also um jammer lammy for $5, sealed ;) ). I have yet to play it, as i'm currently work on...errmmm....like 7 other games. I really need to finish games before I start playing other ones. Honestly, though, the game looks amazing and I can't wait to play it.

You jerk Typo, you did beat me to that.

Vagrant Story is easily one of the top three (if not the number one) most ambitious RPGs to be made on PlayStation, perhaps even on any console.

New game plus options, hidden spells and weapons, making your own weapons and doing your own stats, a perfect blend of puzzle and combat...I could go on forever on just how well this game exceeds at just about everything it sets out to do.

Hey ev1... I like that game too it was frustrating but good and I luved it.... but no offense to anyone I like the game but it wasnt Da best... I easily put it up top at 5 of the best RPG games on PS but thats it... :( sory its just that it didnt get my attention and stunned me like some of the FF's Games (Spefically FF7 that in my opinion is the best FF and PS RPG game in the world) but I think this is betta than FF8 and FFX.....

Well, my friend (being the 'buying cheap games' whore he is),he brought over Vagrant Story to my house over the weekend and i must say, it was pretty fun for a while, but it got kind of boring. The targetting system is like no other, it does turn into a button mashing fest (how fast can YOU tap O twice?) and the environment is basically still a dungeon throughout most of the time i played it (until i turned it off and went outside =/). Conclusion, it was pretty advanced for it's time, maybe i'm still not ready for that kind of game.
