This is a fanciful collection of very diverse cues composed for or used in science fiction films.
The selection ranges from classical pieces like Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra and Gyrgi Ligeti's Atmosphres
(from 2001) to specially prepared extended suites from Franz Waxman's The Bride of Frankenstein and Arthur Bliss'
Things to Come. Mauceri even goes so far as to include the electronic music that Louis & Bebe Barron conceived
for Forbidden Planet, as well as sound effects (thunder and lighting, explosions) in some of the orchestral selections.
An uneven album for sure, with some fine performances, as well as some clinkers.

The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra

1. Aniara: Start: Vintergatan (Karl Birger Blomdahl)
2. The Day The Earth Stood Still: Outer Space (Bernard Herrmann)

4. Forbidden Planet: Once Around Altair (Louis & Bebe Barron)
