Max Steiner's music for King Vidor's The Fountainhead (1949) was one of his finest scores... he found inspiration in this deeply philosophical story -- the music that resulted, reproduced here in full (apart from two missing cues from late in the film) for the first time, is built on a vast, Wagnerian scale, around a set of leitmotifs into one of Steiner's most imposing and fulfilling scores. ***** - AllMusic
