Mame: Multi Arcade Machine Emulator = Emulates a lot of arcade games and doesn't require too much power to run your normal games. You can play the Simpsons, Street Fighter, etc etc.

Online: Well... you know what that is.

Mix the two and then we're talking business!

I'm thinking, those who want to have a little tournament with a competitive game online with Mame (A king of fighter's tournament, a Street Fighter 2 tournament, a tournament of any Mame game you wish). You can post here to give some input on it and I'll even answer questions on what you need to download and how to play online as well.

I would really like to enjoy playing old arcade games with people, especially Street Fighter 2 online.

I would love to do such a thing. There are lots of great old arcade games I'd love the chance to play again. And a competition would be lots of fun. Street Fighter 2 would be good for me.

I always lose when I enter these things, but I'd take part.

I'm like Albania or somewhere, in terms of football. YAY GO BALTICS.

Note that if you want to take part, you'll PROBABLY need a joypad or something... or if you're daring, we can not use em. ^_^

Sounds cool, but I haven't yet invested in a joy pad or arcade board, so would be keyboard for me.

Can't use characters like Zangief... ever tried a 360 degree move using a keyboard? LOL:p

There are several versions of Mame out there that allows you to play online. It's called "Kaillera". It not only works for Mame but various other emulators as well.

It's easy to setup your own server, you can play many different games online. While broadband users will enjoy almost lag free gaming, 56k can also enjoy it quite well with little to no lag.

It would be keyboard for me too, unless this contest happens to fall when I have spare money lying around.

Very possible though Fatal Fury 1 wouldn't be a great choice (Second player has a disadvantage of being able to pick bosses). Fatal Fury 2 on the other hand is good.

I would love to be thrashed at some old arcade games, but I don't think I can because I don't have a game pad for the computer and I doubt I could connect reliably to another computer reliably anyway because of the messy firewall on my home network. =\

i loved that simpsons and turtles game back in the day....they was my best arcade games.....classics

You can download Mame from a lot of places for free (because it is).

Roms... you'll either have to look hard for them and hope you have the right set or you bug me for them.

Okay so I started to go through my game list to see what game would be nice to start off with...

So I've decided on "Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo"

First you'll need to get Mame32 v0.67 from http://www.kaillera.com/download.php

Next the rom part... I can't give it to you directly from here so you'll have to either look for the right roms yourself (and there's a bunch of these so you might be spending a lot of time downloading) or you can AIM me or go to IRC and send a message to MogKnight and I'll prep you up.

I'm hopeless at that game! :(
