A little while back, this girl at my work brought in her new baby. Everyone made the general fuss over it, and asked what his name was. She said "Seifer".

Are there any people here geeky enough to name their child after a video game character? Or anyone whose favorite baby names just happen to be from a video game?

There are plenty of kids in Italy named after Mario... Or that might just be because it's a common name in Italy... Something like that...

I don't know anyone in my family / any of my friends who named their kids after games. My cousin named her triplet boys Josh, Charlie and Ben, and henceforth they're called the "JCB" boys. For much amusement.

If I were to name one of my kids after a gaming character, it would either be Auron or Yoshimitsu. Just because both are psychos with swords and stuff. But I don't think I would...

Auron isn't that bad a name...and Yoshimitsu either but it's an asian name that kind of not fits with a British kid, now doesn't it ? ;)

I don't care if I name a baby after a video game character if the name fits. Maxim (Lufia series), for instance, sound quite good to me. It's already a French first name and it fits well with my last name. But I wouldn't call my child Squall or Tidus.

You just need to see if it fits with the last name and if it isn't too "weird" for the kind of baby you'll have.

I don't think I would ever name my child after a video game character.

If I do have a boy, I was planning on naming it Logan after Wolverine though.

Whatever happened to good old traditional names, like Linoleum? Personally though, I think Cecil would a nice name for a son. I've always like Terra and Celes too.

Oh my god, I need to make that thread again.

I've never been sure as to how to pronounce Celes.

I think Rydia is a really beautiful name. And Auron's probably my favorite ff guys name.

I like Morrigan too, but that's from Darkstalkers.

The publishers of Turok(Activision?) paid people to change their name to Turok. What a crappy publicity stunt.

I dont know what i'd name my kid. But it sure as hell wouldn't be after a game. I'm a gamer but I'm not that obsessed with video games

My baby is gonna be called THE INCREDIBLE HULK! They'll be so cool in school. Nah O_o I wouldn't name my own kid after a video game character on purpose. Talking of baby names though, I know someone who named their baby Jedi. The surname happens to be Night... so it's Jedi Night. Hyuk hyuk hyuk.

I'm seriously considering calling my first daughter Kairi (from Kingdom Hearts) - it's a beautiful name. I like Alexandra though, too (well, I prefer Alexandria, but naming a girl after an Egyptian city is well... weird.).

My fiancee has dips on our first boy's name (Elijah), but if I was going to call him something from a game, i'd probably call him Marche - (which I pronounce 'march', but I think it's a French name and is supposed to be pronounced 'marsh-ay'.).

...but I like Elijah and Kairi. It works for me.

I only really have a name for a daughter, and it's been in my head forever but I think Anneli is a great name. I don't know what I'd name my son, maybe something like Epoch or something...

My friend's sister did this. "Logan Scott",so she could have him named after Wolverine and Cyclops.

I was a little stunned for a second when I had a look over the names of children at my old school, and came across a Freiya - though she certainly wasn't named for the character but for the goddess, it was still weird since it's no usual name and my association IS Freiya from FFIX.

I guess as long as the name is decent it doesn't matter where you got it from. Thankfully you cannot just choose anything as a name where I live... I don't know your laws, but I think it's not possible to name your son "television" or "toaster".

I guess... stuff like "Solid Snake" may be a bit cruel towards a child, but there's nothing wrong with stuff like Celes or Logan.

Okay I know I already posted but I just thought of a name. I still like Anneli, so I'd just add it to her middle. But I would use Rei, from Evangelion, it just seems so perfect, in a way?

I've never been sure as to how to pronounce Celes.

Speaking of Evangelion, and Celes, the people around here that have played that FF pronounce it the same way they pronounce SEELE in Evangelion, but with an "s" on the end (Say-lehs).

As for me, I don't think I have to worry about it. Though I'm with ExS on the name for a girl Kairi is a great name. Not too keen on Elijah, though, too many connotations and too much of a namesake to live up to. But who am I to talk, my name's Daniel.... the old testament equivalent of the Apostle John.

Bah...anyone who thinks they have to 'live up' to their namesake is distrubed. A name is a name, nothing more -

Heck, Jesus is a common name in Spain o_O

Celes is usually pronounced Ceh-less. Like Celeste, but without the -te on the end. Or at least, that show ive always heard it pronoucned (of course, it doesnt help that I grew up in Celeste, Texas, either...)

As for me....I think ill stick with normal names.....my first son will be named Robert afer my late friend. Daughter is up to my wife.
