Why did the king of Baron want to destroy Mist? Mist posed NO threat whatsoever.
Why did Yang shut himself in to stop the cannons in Babil? Was that REALLY necessary?
Also, why did Cid throw himself out when launching that bomb? Was THAT really necessary?
WTF happened to Baron after the impersonated king was killed? Also, how was Golbez able to commandeer the Red Wings anyway after you expose the fake king?
Also, why all this collecting crystals the whole damn game just to resurrect the giant of Babil.... which promptly got destroyed? Isn't there a more efficient way to destroy the earth, especially with what the Red Wings were doing?
I'm sure I can think of more.

I was under the impression that the King was under Golbez' influence (via the Four Fiends) and by extension, Zemus. Not sure about the rest, have you heard of FFIV: The After Years?

SPOILER ALERT
And that true king was none other than Odin, who's spirit turns into a summon that the party can optionally battle later in the game, and who can be summoned by Rydia once he's defeated.
As for Baron, well most kingdoms usually had a chancellor to oversee day-to-day running of the country while the monarch was indisposed, so it's highly likely that's what happens in Baron after Golbez's little charade is revealed. In any event, Cecil and Rosa take the throne as King and Queen at the end of the game anyway.
