Liked the 'Perfume: The story of a murderer' score so this looks very interesting! Thanks for sharing! :D
It is much more restrained than Perfume, not as grand and sweeping. However, it does have some large emotional pieces at the beginning and end. The middle of the score is mostly low-key tension music.
This version sounds like it isn't 320kbps because it isn't 320kbps. Just look at a spectral and you can see that it has a cutoff at 16khz. People need to stop transcoding 128kbps early streams like AOL music into 320kbps and thinking that improves them somehow. It just leads people to think they have a good quality version of the score when they don't.
I don't mean to attack the original poster but whenever a score like this is available to stream prior to release you should look closely at the version you download before sharing it to make sure it isn't a transcode like this.

Huge surprise and a candidate to score of the year. Beautiful, emotional, yet simple music. The idea to base the score mostly on strings is top notch. Final five tracks are wonderful and just for them everone should listen to this.
Even action score is interesting and a bit different than standard Hollywood.
What also surprised me is the fact, that despite 77 minutes it's great listen, boring underscore is almost nonexistent. So IMO it is great music shaped into great album.

I totally agree! One of the versions posted in this thread might have been ripped @48,000 kps instead of the normal 44. On the music side, it aint no Perfume, and in fact borrowed snippets from Killer Elite, and Perfume. Don't get me wrong, I love these guys! But Perfume honestly is one of the finest Soundtracks ever recorded, and one can not help to measure everything else they do by it. Just my own take. And No disrespect meant for the uploaders.

For those who are enjoying this music- please go see the film. I read that it will most likely be a box office failure. It deserves better. With all these dessicated remakes, superhero CGI messes, or teenagers being butchered for fun films being churned out from Hollywood on a regular basis- skipping character for noisy spectacle- a movie like Cloud Atlas deserves attention.
It deserves this because it is daring and bold. It doesn't make itself easy for the audience. But it is never boring. Our 'widdle' brain is being assaulted in a multitude of fashions, challenging it as our eyes fill with the flickering images on the screen. It may require a second viewing to put all the pieces together, to notice the connections of one character in one story line that connect to another character in a different story line. That is part of the fun of this film. There comes a very rich reward toward the end, when everything pulls together in amazing fashion that is bolstered by the slowly building, Bolero-like, crescendo of music that you listen to via this thread.
See this film. And every time you do, an orphan will get a bowl of gruel. ;-)

I've seen the film, and I agree, it's needs to be seen. It's a true cinematic achievement. However, I think everyone should keep an open perspective about the box office. Americans usually don't do movies like this...hence why Warner did a half-assed job promoting it here. It was never going to do big numbers in this country. The film is going to do a lot better internationally, especially Asia, parts of Europe and Russia than it could ever hope to do in America. If it's make $25-30 million here, then it won't take much for the film to get it's money back elsewhere--then there's DVD, Pay TV/Cable rights, etc etc.
It's an independent film as well, so it won't have to make double to break even. I think those who invested will get back most if not all they put in and we also have a truly great film to show for it that will continue to have a following for years to come.

Critics... and I really mean 'the critics' are not helping by admitting it is a superlative effort but then go on to say it is too much for an audience to grasp- also they blame the trailer. I find the trailer intoxicating. I think the critics are welcome to comment on the film but give the audience more credit for having brain stems.
Many of us are starved for some new and something where we are mystified and ponder along the way. This is that film. It is such a rewarding experience. It has haunted me since I saw it days ago. I think about life in a different way. How many films have that effect?
The film remains Number Two in the American box office, yet this is considered a failure? I wish they would stop counting numbers and just promote this as an exciting, challenging, new film experience.
And the music? Good heavens.... the last few tracks... the finale... the sextet. Magical music. Music that, like the film, makes you glad to be part of the human experience no matter what.
See this movie or I will hold my breath & pout (an ugly sight, trust me on this). ;-)

Maybe it will be bigger internationally, but that's the problem: It just not getting out of the US anytime soon. Mexico gets it on December, Europe, or most of the countries in Europe, until February.
I hate distributors,

I just have to post that the "Sextet" is gorgeous.
I would also like to echo Phideas1's pleas for everyone to see the film. Do so on the largest screen you can find and let it wash over you. Action, romance, comedy, tragedy, adventure, horror -- they're all there. THE best time I've had at the theatre this year, period. This is a film to be experienced.
Everan Shepard

I wanted to see this in IMAX, but it premieres in Mexico the same day as The Hobbit. Not complaining, will still see both of them!
Phideas1

No matter how it does in theaters.... the DVD release with extras on the making will be must have for anyone interested in fine cinema. This film is so many genres. Not a science fiction film in the pure sense but a thriller, a comedy, a Gothic romance, a horror story.
People will want to know how this was made. Watch over and over again. Contemplate its message (s) or simply enjoy, as Hugh Grant said, 'the roller coaster ride'.
I have not gone to the cinema since seeing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I am so glad I saw Cloud Atlas on the big screen. It is a big movie. And hey, any film that is book-ended by the story of a composer and his sextet is a treat right there. So for folks who have to wait to see the film at least you have the music. Listening to it from this thread has been a delight. However I will buy the compact disc as well. Interesting, when I think, that we all share music & are drawn together by music. Looks like we are connected around this globe in this time as well. ;-)

Phideas1 you are of those "People who DO"...I know...as it write under my name on the Avatar ( A Bit Crazy )...I have a real other conception of "Posting"...I don't post for "thanks" ( even if I don't refuse them when they sincere ) or views or hits ( most of my posts are by P.M. anyway...I receive Thanks !!! ), but - and you will maybe find that I had reason to put that under my Name - I estimated that it's the Poster "to thank" people who download one of his Post ( I really do think that )...they spend time to download something that I tall them is Good...it's nice from they part to done it !!!
That's the reason also I post mostly under P.M. ( even when is not a forbidden label...they all forbidden anyway ). Yes...I spend time to reply, but I'm well organized....
Most of the time posters who use P.M. posting ( but we already speak about that at discussion section )...ask a THANK YOU...and reply alone to those "thank you" by P.M., I never ask nothing than a P.M. ( even if most of those P.M. that are received are accompanied with a Thank...I know for the lazy one's it's more fast to just post "Thank you" on the main Forum and just wait...than start to write me a P.M. and wait for the answer !!! ).
It's exception...who just ask for a reply -any reply- ( as my good friend Erich do ) but I don't know how to manage that system if you have lots of replies...you will certainly ( at least me..I try...I know ) forget people, and send 3 P.M. to others...
I know that is people who appreciate my posts, but as I tall when I made a post out of my "usual posts standard,... as a New Post"...they don't care...( one of the reason I have this file such long time and don't post it !!!...and I have lots of those kind of files !! )...I feel that I will "spoiled the new Stuff...and don't understand ( really ) how somebody with a streaming score reconverted at 320 ....can first send it without any protection ( codified or P.M. ) and have so much "back" from the people. Is not a question of jealousy ( believe me I real don't care )...it's just a mystery to me...that's why I stop to post "New stuff" and post my "oldies" who satisfy me...I rarely watch the views I done...cause all is "underground by P.M.".....( yes I have to empty my P.M. box every 2 or 3 days as they still ask me for posts that I made months ago...I have a list of Re-Up to do...but everybody who post me receive his OST !!! ).
That why I won't make a "Cloud Atlas" post [Only Flac]...the people who see my message with the screen cap of that file...can P.M. me i will done as usual...reply with the Flac post !!!
But I'm of those who can tell the difference inside a 160 K file and FLAC....those who don't, as to change "Stereo system" or "ears"...I suggest them to start to change their stereo ( is more easy than change a pair of ear ) .
By the way it was really pleasure to speak with you Phideas1, I read your "reviews" for the Movie...and that give me "the need" to see it...but where I live...it's more new Donkeys than new Movies...they will come first in a "DVD Club" as Pirate copies...and maybe never be on the few Theaters we have in the Main City...So I will wait for the DVD ( certainly before X-Mass )...for see it...
Friendly
