It really does my friend, bad script, terrible acting from Downey Jr. and too over the top acting, for my taste, by Tommy Lee Jones. But Goldsmith saved the day allright!

Would love to see an expanded version some day, if for nothing else than just to have the climactic chase/fight on the freighter ship.

I enjoy the movie a lot and think it's a solid action flick. Wish it had led to a series of Gerard films.

I was going to say "Can I please have a link?" but thought that it's kinda boring. Not the music, but the way it's said. Looking back at old posts on this thread and others, I see sometimes 5 years worth of "Link please? Thanks!" and there's very little variety.

Now if someone was to say "Good sir, may I inquire upon thee a link to this fine recording?" that would kinda snap the thread's monotony, would it not?

Then again, thanks to the language of "Jive", one could say "Say blood, slap me some jive groves!" and that would also be kind of entertaining.

However, it occurred to me that the person that has the music may go "huh?" and not process the request because they have no idea what the hell you're saying.

So.. in case it gets lost in translation:

Thank you! This is the last of the 90s Goldsmith scores that I was interested in but hadn't heard. Goldsmith in the 90s wasn't always at his best and somehow, despite this being at my prime Goldsmith collecting period, I guess this cd never came to town and I missed it. So I've always wondered about it.
I really like the Filmtracks site's reviews. I find them very helpful when I can't find soundtrack reviews anywhere else. They are not infallible but, for my tastes, I find I disagree with them about 90% of the time. They really thought this soundtrack was poor so that was good enough for me to really want to try it. And, as I hoped, I quite like it. (That's the great thing about professional critics: you find someone whose tastes mesh with yours and you try all their recommendations or you find someone whose tastes are quite the opposite and you try everything they don't like. David Thompson is a film critic I agree with almost 100% of the time; Harold Bloom is a Shakespeare critic is disagree with almost 100% of the time. Both are practically infallible guides.) Goldsmith manages to reign in the electronics and while there isn't any classic, great theme, it's a good, solid piece of work, perfect for reading a thriller to. Good enough that I'd even look forward to an expanded edition someday.

Glad you liked it, it seems now with all the terrible "film music" from the Remote Control "composers" and so on, that any lesser Goldsmith is in fact a master piece compare to what we hear these days.
