Both versions are very fine. I think the basic difference is that Strobel uses a larger string ensemble, while Fitz-Gerald uses the chamber-sized strings as originally devised by Shostakovich. There's a behind-the-scenes clip on Youtube of Fitz-Gerald's rehearsal, as well as an interview:
