Edit: AFAIC,this mono version still remains the definitive version of this legendary movie,with it being the complete score and a sound quality that is still very,very good. The movie was recorded in stereo but released with a mono soundtrack. When the transfer from film to tape was done in the early 1960's,it was unfortunately done in mono only. That is a bass ackwards way of operating to my way of thinking, as to how these some of these studios operated back when.

The original 35mm masters may have been destroyed(?),at any rate there seems to be no real consensus as to their present existence. Hopefully,maybe they only are misplaced in some yet to be discovered archive and still have not yet completely deteriorated.
