Hello, I'm new here, and I'm unsuccessful in uploading my avatar.

I used a 125 x 125 24.2KB PNG which should be small enough, but I'm getting the message "Unable to save image".

I then tried a 64 x 64 JPEG which is only 5.79KB, even smaller. I get the same message.

I then uploaded the JPEG to Photobucket and try to get the avatar from there, but still the same message.

Any particular reason why this is happening?

It might be because your user permissions are restricted, due to your low post count/being a new member (other restrictions new members with only a few posts have is you can't post messages with links - these are automatically moderated if you try, plus you can't use the Private Message system/leave or make Visitor Messages).

I must admit I'm not sure if this restriction indeed applies, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's true. If that is the case, wait until you've made a few more posts (around 5 would probably be enough) and then try uploading your avatar again.

Alright, thanks for the tip. I'll check out a few threads and then see if it will work again.

Maximum size for custom avatars is 19.5 KB (or smaller) [written below the upload form]. Also, but this is just my experience, fetching them through URLs never worked for me... always had to upload.

*facepalm* I could've sworn it was something larger than 24.2KB. Oh well.
Also, I tried uploading the first time, which didn't work, and then fetching with URLs which didn't work either.
Oh, and I've posted a few times to raise the post count, but I still get the same message. Maybe it's a join date thing and not post count? Oh well.

I can confirm that there is a glitch in the system right now and you cannot upload an avatar from you computer or a url. The new signature I linked works fine but I guess I'll have to wait to upload my new avatar.

Haha damn I wish I had read this first! I was trying to upload a proper avatar and I thought that MAYBE removing my other avatar then trying to reupload would work - but it didn't. So now I gotta go avatar-less for a while. I feel kinda naked. Like one of those people that posts once on a forum then never comes back...which I kinda don't want to do. >_>;

Not now, since I'm still on Code Lyoko, but I believe we can still remove our avatars, just not upload new ones.

can't imagine not being able to upload avatar as such matters to me being sort of an expression and an identity. glad i don't encounter this and in fact on the duration of my stay here up to present i could have changed my avatar like 100 times using about 50+ or more avatars i cut myself, lol.

i've had about 3 to 4 avatars i used for a longer duration and that's about it. but right now i'm sticking to the one i'm using and i't been awhile now and i still have no plan of changing it. if that's me it could be frustrating to those who can't put 1 on.

but i'm sure mods has it under control whatever glitch caused this. :)

Alright, I had a friend from another forum that's an expert in graphics make me an avatar, and I'd like to use it here, too.



However, I know you guys were concerned about my avatar change requests, so it's completely up to you. This is Maru from Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, a video game, so it won't go out of date quite so quickly, and whenever I get back into playing this game, I do so for a long time, so the avatar issues should be fixed by the next time I want to change.

Let's make this a party. I need Jessie's help too. Can't load my avatar and I have about 10 posts. I have shrunk the image down to 50x77 2.39 kb and it still won't work. I can't even get the image to appear in this email. I have tried using the image insert/upload function and even copy & paste. Very frustrating indeed!

I'm a she. And my avatar follows the size limits. It's just not 125x125. Glass Butterflies is bigger because I don't think Jessie caught it was too big when he added it. It's kind of a pain to change so it can stay, as far as I'm concerned.

Also, I never said you had to change your avatar, just maybe make it the 125 x 125 pixels limit instead of the file size limit or find out if there's a way to fix VMs on user profiles and the View Conversation page so it doesn't break VMs? =P :x

Just post the image you want as your avatar, and Marceline or Jessie will take care of you.

Yep. Sarah continues to neglect, or maybe even be unaware of, the issue.

Have you seen Sarah post anything about fixing this issue? I bet no. From the information I've gathered, this is not something which "magically fixes itself", someone with actual access to server+board configuration files has to intervene. In case you want this minor thing to get fixed so badly, try sending a few private messages, or at worst pester her Twitter handle.

I proposed looking into the problem in the past but didn't get a response. I have an avatar so I'm good. /care

As far as I know, not even an administrator can manually set avatars for other users now. Do you want to (hopefully) get this issue fixed? Let Sarah (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showgroups.php) know about it, here, or on Twitter, I guess.
