QUIRKY WORLD (rare tracks from Vladimir Cosma!) (Lossless) (FLAC)
Vladimir Cosma is a hugely popular composer known for his many charming and tuneful scores for the French cinema. As someone who composes in virtually every musical style, it’s not surprising that he created quite a bit of “production music” --- short cues (often described according to their mood) not written for anything specific, but to be used as incidental background music for film trailers, TV shows, ads on radio, etc. To accommodate all possibilities, a cue usually had one or two shorter variations too.
There were several mono LPs that included production music by Cosma, though the ones I’ve heard are simple jazz, percussion, or electronic cues and not the sort of music we now associate him with. But there was also a series of CDs on the Galerie label with orchestral music in stereo. Many of these only include 1 or 2 compositions by Cosma, so Quirky World is a treat in that 18 of the 20 tracks are by him. Each track is presented full-length, and also in a 1-minute and 30-second version. Track 17 is by Edgar Vercy and track 20 by Guy Boulanger (both in 3 variations). So there are actually 58 tracks on this disc!
Cosma fans will recognize some tunes that were also used in films he scored (not sure which came first). But there are also many original cues and they are unmistakably Cosma: light, cheeky, whimsical (as the first track “Ping Pong Peggy” is described). Additional info about Cosma production music on LP and CD can be found in the 2nd spoiler.
58 tracks totaling over an hour of music.
Galerie CD #2
Good stereo sound. No dialog or sfx.
Tau and EAC indicated all tracks on this disc to be lossless.
Disc was ripped to FLAC using XLD.
