I have a couple questions about the "Z+ Apple App Exclusive" score pieces.
I know the ones listed are "Wayne Manor," "Bane," "Selina Kyle," and "Orphan", but has anyone seperated these into the seperate tracks as they appear on the app? There are multiple pieces to Bane in the app, and I was thinking it'd be nice to have the cues as seperate score pieces.
Also, what's the deal with the score pieces "Nightfall" and "Gotham City by Night"? Are those available for download anywhere?

What are the differences between "recording sessions" and "complete score" and "special edition" versions ?

Nightmare27
03-07-2013, 02:03 AM
I guess you're new here.
In this case, The Dark Knight Recording Sessions include all the music you hear in the film.
A recording sessions, from what I understand (there's de facto and de jure) is like a complete score but with alternates and suites, sometimes unused music. Really these should be named Film Mixes or something. Recording Sessions makes it sound whole.
A typical complete score would consist of music just heard in the film.
A special edition could mean anything ranging from a few bonus tracks to a bonus cd (usually associated with OSTs).

I guess you're new here. :D ;)

Recording sessions are the expensive hours spent with the orchestra during wich the conductor gets it to have exactly what he/or the composer wants. Real recording sessions for a Batman RC score would consist in orchestral only stuff, wich means it would run maybe only 20min for each film, or a few more with bonus takes.

... Recording sessions would make it sound empty, excepted for pure orchestral cues. (And don't confuse orchestra with sampled brass and string FXs).

Neither all the programming, sampling and design from those scores, nor the synthetic music would require any "sessions", as well as they don't require such facilities as in a recording studio to get the sound on tape. This is all digitally made.

- So "recording sessions" are only called that way by the posters for the fame, or to "believe" they have the real deal in their hands (I mean for those RCP scores).
- Complete score would mean here a complete mixing with all the OL's right in place, wich is not always the case. But that's more commonly what they like to call "recording sessions" whatever it is complete or not.

...

Well... "Recording sessions" or "complete score", I would like to know there is such a version for "The Dark Knight Rises". I've seen many versions around : "Original Film Cue Titles", "Ultimate Complete Score", ... How to be sure the source was not DVD or Bluray? AC3 or DTS sound mixing from videos are not as good as a real "original" audio CD (official or not)

It's suffering from the same Ramp Jump Syndrome which seems to be affecting all the other youtube versions. That part is the hardest part to reproduce exactly as heard in the movie. The tempo of the loops heard when the main theme kicks in (when John Blake is turning the car) is more than the loops heard in the background of the end credits of batman begins (which everyone has used to reproduce the music. These loops are the same as those heard at the start of molossus or even in Rises, when Batman begins to pursue Bane and the elder cop tells the younger one to put his gun away before he hurts himself. If someone can replace the end credits loops by the molossus loops, I think we would get the definitive film version.

The "Recording Sessions" are leaked. Not sure where they are sourced from, but they are not from a DVD or Blu-Ray. They are not official releases. Nor are they recording sessions. But that is what they are called for continuity sake.

My frustration is everyone has their own damn fan release or messed with the volume, renamed them...bah, whatever. Making it difficult for those late to the party to understand what is out there. I am hoping to go through everything for the three films I downloaded last night and try to avoid having to make my own, actual, complete release. *sigh*

I picked up all of the sessions in FLAC, so that was rad. I guess the confusion comes from track titles and everyone's own version of the soundtrack, plus the fan mixes.

The shame is everyone should really specify what their mix is sourced from and what changes are done to it. Additionally it'd be nice to have a definitive list of what is still missing. And so on and so fourth. What is the deal with Angel's definitive BB that was pulled? Where abouts might that be rediscovered. (I get this is taboo, but heck its been a year.)

I saw that vje11 uploaded it in 3 parts back on the bottom of page 9, but the links are dead now... can't find another working link on the thread, and since there are a lot of versions of the batman scores floating around on other threads, I thought it safer to stick on this one.

Unless I missed something (and I usually don't but it's possible), TDK is still not available in FLAC. Odds are someone took the VBR set and transcoded it to FLAC. Sounds crazy, but I know people here who do it. Why? I have not a damn clue as it makes no fucking sense. But if it's legit FLAC then hooray!!!!

Oh, I didn't realise that... So the one that vje11 posted a few pages back wasn't true FLAC? I know that TDKR has no FLAC out yet for the complete score, but I thought that TDK was the real deal.
Does that mean that TDK 2CD special edition is also not true FLAC?

Yeah, that's what I had thought... Surely someone would have mentioned it somewhere on this thread if they thought that TDK complete wasn't FLAC...
P.S. so true about the number of TDKTrilogy threads out there... I believe this to be the best thread probably though, so i'll try to stick on here if I can.

EDIT: Actually, can anyone tell me what the differences between TDK 2CD Special Edition and Complete Score are?
The 2CD Special Edition has 58 tracks with no alternates, and seems pretty complete to me, i.e. most of the film music covered. So maybe the Complete Score has alternate track versions included where they exist?
I know that for the BB Complete Score (3 CDs - 74 tracks), it goes through the film order for the first 2 discs, then alternates on the 3rd disc.

Welcome to The Dark Knight Trilogy Resources thread! I can hear the groans already, another Batman music thread. I've created this thread so that, hopefully, there can be a few less of those groans.

Here is where I will round up and compile all links for anything Batman music related. A daunting task, yes, but hopefully with help from you all, it will flourish and be a benefit for the Shrine community.

I'll periodically update this thread to allow it to grow at a deliberate pace. With the initial posting, I'm only including links to unedited and relatively untouched versions of the widely-known editions (soundtracks, complete leaks, bonus tracks, etc.) With future updates, I'll be adding fan edits and other community contributions, if available. So, if you would like your edition to be included in this thread, please PM me with a link and info, or a link to an existing thread. You can comment on this thread, too, but response may not be as quick.

The links are mine unless otherwise specified. Some are missing at the moment, and unless anyone is willing to contribute a greyed-out link or two, I can get to uploading those tomorrow when I have access to the original files.

So, here we go! Here's to hoping that this thread flourishes with your help and puts an end to some of the repetitive groans.

So I am realizing some differences in the MP3 versions of BB.

The 74 track version has some truncated tracks, and the 75 track version has a different version of "Hide In The Dark", that actually uses "Rachel Warns Crane 2/B" in the beginning. I will have to tackle discs two and three tomorrow.

The FLAC version seems to be the best accurate version between the two. But any input on the "Hide In The Dark" difference?

Also, anyone have custom versions of the missing cues from BB?

Thanks!

Several members made custom edits for film versions of tracks on all 3 films. So many have done editing and mastering on these, figuring out which is a "definitive" set may be a lost cause.

I just took a set and called it that. Batman Begins mp3 320: 61 tracks (2.2 hours). The Dark Knight Returns mp3 320: 59 tracks (3.5 hours). The Dark Knight Rises mp3 320: 58 tracks (2.8 hours). I am happy to post these if needed. Honestly, beyond minor alterations and "film edits", I do not hear too much differences, so I gave up. If any of the founders of this thread could state which were definitive gosh golly the ones to have, that'd be KEEN.

I am happy to post these if needed. Honestly, beyond minor alterations and "film edits", I do not hear too much differences, so I gave up. If any of the founders of this thread could state which were definitive gosh golly the ones to have, that'd be KEEN.

This!

Okay, so I am not sure where the edit on "Hide in the Dark" came from.

I see "Lasiurus" and "Ra's Al Ghul Suite" are one in the same.

Have either "Courthouse (Part 2)" or "Finch is Killed" surfaced?

The Standard Version is the original Version of the Trailer

Hey, I have found some interesting dark knight rises drumming videos on youtube - they sound much better than you might think from the notion of a drum overplay - first one (once it gets going) is a great alt take on the deshi basara theme - somehow the guy has sourced a very high quality isolation of the chant for the beginning - and the second is a compilation of various themes from the film, given a nice boost by the extra drums - very interesting stuff, makes for a nice bonus track type addition. full credit to the youtuber; he deserves more views:

I have both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight in Flac (original quality) and The Dark Knight Rises as was posted by Scorepranos a year back. I will post all of these, as people probably want them.

A couple questions regarding the various trailers used for the Nolan trilogy:

Is there a fan mix anywhere of the music used in the first Dark Knight teaser (linked here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRCwnLrrxyQ))

Second, does anyone know if there's an edit out there of "A Fire Will Rise" that finishes with the signature Batman two-tone horn, rather than the chant? See 2:11 of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5U8suTUw0) trailer for the horns I'm talking about. I always felt that music rising, and then finishing with the chant in the the Dark Knight Rises trailers was very anti-climactic. If there isn't a mix like that out there, would anyone be willing to make one?

Nightmare, for the Joker suite, the music does not match to the Joker suite in the original Sessions.
The timing for the Session's Joker suite is 9:30 but the soundtrack album "Joker suite - a.k.a Why so serious" is 9:14.
Kinda big difference in the timing too don't you think so?

It's the same music overall, it just cuts off abruptly, as NCFirebolt21 put it, because it fades to another song from the OST, which is where the music on CD 3 came from.

Just curious, does anybody still have the non-faded Joker Suite version (from Isabela82's upload)? I'm Not A Hero would be simple to reconstruct because "Find The Batman" has the exact same intro, but I can't find any link to the non-cut Joker Suite :/

I also found this 23min version of the Bane Suite, which does include unreleased material (or is a really well done fan-edit, but some of the stuff in there I heard in none of the tracks on the RS): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CNhrfnv9AM

Does anybody know where to get a proper mp3 of that and where it originated from? Compare the waveforms here:

Nightmare - correct me if I'm mistaken, but as far as the TDKR score, I believe there was someone asking about one of the tracks containing the 'Danger Over' track fromBatman Begins which ran about 55 seconds; there is, and the track in the TDKR score that contains it runs 2:10 and is titled 'Without a Rope'; idk if anyone was still trying to find that out, but that's what it is. Also, do you have any tracks for the trilogy that you didn't post, and if so, could you please post them.

Hey Sharky - I listened to it again, and determined, sadly that the sessions were not included, but I am keeping my eyes out and will let everyone knows as soon as I get a VALID link for them.

Anyone happen to have a film mix of 3m22 Rooftop Fight / Back to Batcave? It's missing the insert of the "epic theme", the cue heard when Batman makes his first appearances in TDK & TDKR (in TDK heard in 1m03 Buyer Beware and TDKR in 3m20 Batman Chased).

Everything I had was included in those links, which I'm going to have to update again unfortunately. I don't know when yet, as time is very constrained for me right now.

It's also on the OST, "Fear Will Find You" I think. The end is shorted down, but still.

Can anybody help me with that unreleased Bane suite? It's not the same as the Z+ suite and I can't find it anywhere.

New post since this has nothing to do with the one before.

I've created another Rooftop Fight / Back To Batcave alternate that doesn't use the compressed to hell OST version in the beginning, and a Batman Chased alternate with the film intro and outro, and a bit shortened in between.

Batman Chased (https://mega.co.nz/#!s8gC0RaA!cnfbNiOs5KWUnOmQxtYa6EvCie7J324LSOqC_It 1ULw)*
Rooftop Fight (https://mega.co.nz/#!o9JXFQqL!cNRCDTXZuLOOYXfLgDEDeZ7TjgfrziLl8jxJTzH 1OVE)*

*updated both versions slightly.

They're "mastered" (as in reduced gain) to fit the loudness level of the Recording Sessions - 320k mp3.

Sources for Rooftop Fight were the OST version for the Batstinger and the Sessions version, sources for Batman Chased are a bit more complicated:

OST version + Danger Over from Batman Begins for intro horn
LSI Extraction from Dark Knight shortened down for Batstinger
OST version for mainpart
5.1 DTS track for Superflap
Batmobile Chase Alternate and Backup from Batman Begins score for ending.

Enjoy!

I know that Harvey Dent Suite and New Batman Suite can be found in the OST. If I am not wrong, they are named differently. I think is "Two-Face Harvey Dent" and "Like Dog Chasing Cars". But I don't recall these tracks having that sort of duration. Maybe you meant The Dark Knight Suite instead of New Batman Theme as it is only about 5 min.
Anyway, I am not sure which one you're referring to but here's the link and hopefully those are the tracks you might be looking for.

I'd like to hear that. Keep in mind a film mix has cues crossfaded as heard in the film. Many people don't take that into account. I'm gonna check out you version of TDK, hopefully it's been properly mixed.

Edit:

Nicely done. Not fond of how many cues have been combined into 9/12-min segments, but overall I think everything is in order. I'll have to compare it to my custom film mix.

cheldo
04-10-2015, 06:18 PM
Thanks wonderful! I know I didn't combine so many tracks in 9 or 12 minutes pieces, but I tried to stay as closely faithful to what is heard in the film. Any ways, thanks a lot and PLEASE let me know!
I did absolutely take in all overlaps and fades since it is many years I do this and I hear each track several times.

darkknight1978
04-10-2015, 07:42 PM
If you mix the cues to be exactly what is heard in the film in terms of crossfades and overlaps, there are going to be quite a few tracks that will be anywhere from 8-15 minutes long, though. That's why I split mine up into the stand alone cues. Anything that goes over 7 minutes is usually too long and becomes tedious; at least for me personally. I like hearing the tracks as though they were on an official Intrada or La La Land release. For me, the perfect presentation of cues was the old Star Wars Anthology box set. The cues were all split and mostly individual.I guess I like hearing the cues individually, but the film mix versions. If that makes sense. Basically I like hearing what was intended to be one cue from the composer but the film version of that said cue. Usually the only time I will mix two cues together is if one cue is very short (45 seconds or less).

Different strokes for different folks obviously. Lol Just glad this score is available to us and we can all create our custom film mixes that we like as individuals.

DAKoftheOTA
04-10-2015, 07:47 PM
And that's why I'll overlap them and then split them right where the two meet. For example, I have 5m45 You Complete Me (which runs 3:25) transitioning directly into 5m46-47 Wired (which runs 8:45). Idk why, I just hate really long cues. So I'll crossfade everything where they're supposed to overlap and then cut them right where the two meet

I do understand, but what I tried to make is a 'Film Edit Complete Score' THE MOST OBJECTIVE WAY POSSIBLE, therefore trying to make it just as the cues were finally mixed in the movie, trying to not get my personal likings in the way. Any ways your feedback is helpful and very interesting, especially in preparation for my next film score edits. THANK YOU!

That is also a nice way to tie long cues up, but, having Zimmer composed many suites, too, I tried not to take it up to too many tracks and tried to stay in a sort of 'range'.

I'd share my complete edit, but the quality is really not great. Should someone have this in FLAC (and doesn't mind privately sharing ;)) I'd go back and redo it. Same with TDKR. Made a film edit (as best I could - 3m20 Batman Chased really fucked me up with trying to overlap/crossfade everything), and that's why I need a film mix of that track. Quality's not great, but if it's available in FLAC I'd redo it.

Here is my 'Complete Film Version Score' to 'The Dark Knight Rises', finally.

Here is what I did:
Objectively listened to the tracks in the film, fading them in, cutting where needed, added all the suites to a third disc since there are many more composed compared to 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight' (another Complete Film Version Score by me, done with the same method) and obviously renamed in a neat and pretty much (I hope) clear all the tracks. Unfortunately, the covers aren't custom, and are therefore not included, but I would appreciate it greatly if, by any chance, someone ever chose to make some. Well, other than this, which isn't important: PLEASE, DO ENJOY, and FEEDBACK IS PRECIOUS BY ALL OF YOU.

The track listing is the following:
CD1:
1. The Fire Rises and The Truth About Harvey Dent
2. Room Service
3. Selina's Safe Cracking
4. He Was The Batman
5. Nothing Out There
6. Underground Army
7. Blake's Visit and Hospital
8. For Old Times' Sake
9. Stock Exchange and Batman Returns
10. Clean Slate and Rooftop Fight
11. Handing Over the Reactor
12. I'm Gotham's Reckoning
13. Bruce and Miranda/Take Me to Bane
14. The Shadows Betray You
15. Airport Detainee
16. No True Despair Without Hope
17. Activating Reactor and Cops into Sewers

CD2:
1. Instrument of Your Liberation
2. Gotham Is Yours
3. There's A Storm Going On
4. No Ordinary Child and Special Forces
5. Why Do We Fall?
6. Death By Exile
7. Come With Me
8. To Die With Your City
9. Imagine The Fire
10. A Hero Can Be Anyone
11. They Know Who It Was
12. End Credits
13. The End

CD3:
1. Moody Bruce New Hero Suite
2. Bane Suite
3. Cat Suite
4. Moody Bruce New Transfiguration Suite
5. A Dark Knight Suite
6. Bane Action Mezzo Suite

And It turned out that the barcode (a part of 888) shows Singapore. But cannot find the company info.

@ DAKoftheOTA

Yeah, i thoght these are bootlegs too. But the price is about $70 USD !! I think it's expensive for bootleg. But strangely no one complains to the seller so far...

Just right click and save as.

We don't really just post external sites like that.
Tumblr is not a file host service like MEGA or mediafire.
Even if they do allow music uploads.

Usually it's just best to download and re-up to a file host.
Hotlinking like that is sure-fire way of getting that DMCA'ed.

What is that even?

If that's the Aurora track, it was originally sold on iTunes as a charity event.
Which would make it an AAC track. Anything MP3 is transcoded.
I don't think it's sold on iTunes anymore, though.

---------- Post added at 02:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:14 PM ----------

IIRC, the Aurora track got banned from sharing here since it caused too many problems for a lot of people.
I don't know how it fares today, since it's no longer for sale on iTunes, but I guess you can ask an Admin about it.

There is that 3CD recording sessions, which should still be on this particular thread.
That source is genuinely lossless, so there is no issue with that.

Yikes. It didn't think it would be that insufferable.
I like long music, but only when it makes sense.

ChiefDundee does use the recording sessions,
so unlike much of his other work, it is lossless.
I do like how he included the album versions.
As well as the alternates from the RS.
It does make it a more complete set, even though,
according to him, it's only expanded, so I wonder
what is missing for that claim to work.

I honestly recommend just getting the recording
sessions, and slap the last disc from Dundee's set
on it. It'll be closest to complete.

The suite I was referring to was Super 8. Actually it is extremely difficult to edit a good suite from that score, because some emotional cues are extremely short and it's difficult to choose which cues to edit together. But he made a horrid works in choosing the various cues.

I actually like that he includes the official releases in his sets as a separate thing and that does (or tries) to do some Film Mixes, but sometimes it doesn't work. For example, in his Inception or Tron Legacy sets there are horrible mergings and sometimes he gets a 20-minutes tracks. Which could be good but is... meh. You can't really enjoy that music any longer.
It's a really good thing that he use lossless when he can. In general, I love his approach in his sets, but sometimes it comes out not that good.

It's always the way the material is presented being the question.
I imagine he either doesn't have the chops for it or didn't know
what to do with that particular score.
I more prefer a score when: a). it's the individual cues or b).
they're mixed together well enough that I don't mind.

I always appreciate it when one puts in as many versions that actually exist.
That is why I like the various custom complete video game soundtracks on this forum.

Again, it all comes down to the material one has to work with.
ChiefDundee definitely has the right mindset, but it's always the execution that matters.
I will contest to him using lossless sources whenever he can, though.
His Dark Knight set is supposedly lossless, yet when one uses a spectrogram,
the files used are from very lossy sources. Like, only 1 or 2 files actually look lossless.
I can't say if the same applies to his other work, including his Batman stuff.

I agree :)
Usually, before going into editing for a custom suite, I'll listen to the score as much as I can, and try to get the various themes so that I can mind-plan what I'm going to do later. Unfortunately, the only one composer I'm pretty good in listening-remembering-planning-editing is Hans Zimmer  Strangely that process gets very difficult, to me, when it's not Zimmer. And Giacchino, to me, is a very difficult composer to work on.

So, we share the same tastes in suites! :D

:this: Totally right.
Talking about his Batman edits, his Batman Begins set should be in lossless, since the lossless RS were already shared by a long time.

I can't say for his The Dark Knight set. Actually I'm the worse of the worst in recognizing lossless... I don't have good ears & headphones :P I know that the lossless sessions were also by some time here on Shrine, but were re-discovered only last year. Immediately after that, Dak began working on his Film Mix. But I don't really know if Dundee worked with lossless sessions or not.

Dundee's set for The Dark Knight Rises is disappointing. Not because of mp3, but because he literally made by himself and entire CD of 'fake' Alternates.

No one can "recognize" lossless. You can recognize the difference between, say, 128k and 320k, but not between 320k and lossless.

If people could detect lossless purely through hearing, then why would we need to check files in spectograms?

Thank you for your cooperation ! (*・∀・`)

Thanks to a special place, I now have information on these.

They come from a bootleg label company called First Born Records. They've done a few things, with the one that pops up in my head is a 50 track version of the first Bayformers score when the many versions were the rage.

The only one that is available to download (if you know what you're doing) is Begins. It's on two 90 minute CDs. It actually has a catalogue number: FBR-CD8700. There was an initial release of 300 copies worldwide. The particular post is a proper rip of one of those copies.

I think a benefit that this set might have (since there is so many) is that it might have the seperated cues that Cameron007 posted about. The overall amount is 84 tracks, so it's pretty damn close.

I would love to download and verify it's legitimacy, but I'm busy. I'll get to it eventually, but it's interesting as it stands.

HunterTech

OK. The Begins FBR set is legit. 1m0 and 1m1 were actually separate, as the slates I have show them to me. Doesn't hurt that the files are lossless indeed. This makes me happy.

Now about the other two...
