I bought the Deluxe Edition from Hdtracks.com in 192khz/24Bit Quality, and made a DVD-Video Disc in DTS 96khz/24 bit compatible with all DVD Players with DTS Decoding and all DTS receivers (HDMI or S/PDIF). I upsampled the remaining 3 songs in MP3 to the same specs for consistency. DTS decoders that can't decode 96/24 will playback in 48/24 instead.
Burn the MDS file and play on your normal DVD/Blu-ray Player, I created a Menu to select the songs, you can skip songs using fast forward. The menu is not perfect to navigate but you can access every song easily with a little patience.
I chose this format because 192khz/24 FLACs are too big for me to upload and DTS is much more supported by stand-alone players and receivers, even the older ones.

Hope You ENJOY!

Good job "but" what about regular FLAC 24-96 files? would use same space and much easier to read on Foobar or portable player? Have you tried to use Foobar2000 to convert your 192K files into 96? fairly easy. If you do thanks in advance.

You are seriously going to make me buy the original files because you somehow managed to create this file in a way that it is impossible to extract the original tracks back to FLAC. I've just wasted 2 hours trying to do it. Plus an hour to download the thing in the first place. Please, never do it this way again. If you're doing something for audiophiles, you need to use an accepted audiophile format. We like FLAC for a reason...not to mention I want to put this in my library and play it just like everything else, with ratings and play history and tags and everything...not boot up some special program just for one album. This is so important to me that I spend whole DAYS figuring out how to rip the lossless DTS from the Lord of the Rings Complete Recordings so I could play them from my PC in foobar.

Thank you for your effort though...without you I wouldn't have even known there WAS an audiophile version of the score to lust after... :)

:swoon: I like the cut of your jib.

DTS is compressed but stereo DTS at 1.5 Mb/S is transparent!

Is this DTS-HD Master Audio? :erm: Sounds more like just the DTS-core audio. Which is lossy.
Transparent yes. But lossy.
1.5Mbps is the general bitrate for the core.
3-5Mbps is more the lossless DTS formats.
Depending on how many channels there are.

768kbps per channel.

Feck, even DTS@768kbps (768/2=384kbps per channel) is said to be transparent to AC3@640.
AC3@640 is said to be transparent as far AC3 files go.

Which for all of you trying to rip the audio is just plain...
I don't know.
Just plain something. Use your imagination.

You are seriously going to make me buy the original files

Yeah, so?

because you somehow managed to create this file in a way that it is impossible to extract the original tracks back to FLAC.

:rofldata: The technology isn't that hard to figure out. The right tools are out there.
Which you don't have.
Which is why you find it "impossible".

 You remind me of a younger me before I learned of the proper way of doing things

Just burn it to disc and listen to it on the DVD/BD machine, mister.

If you really want to archive this and jerk off to the "audiophile" version, go buy it.
Unless this was coverted to DTS-HD Master Audio and not just a regular DTS file (which is the core of DTS-HD Master Audio and lossy), you did waste your whole time not only downloading, trying to learn something new but also bitching for something that doesn't really apply to your audiophile needs.

I don't see the point of DTS. It's not surround sound.

:rdj: You guys! Stop it! I'm starting to get a hard on from all this laughing :rofldata:

DTS doesn't have to be surround sound.
There are so many movies with different setups.
There's mono, stereo, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 8.1, 9.1...

Honestly, I find anything over 5.1 utter useless.
For a movie to be 6.1 or 7.1 proper, it must be filmed/engineered in the extra channels.
You can't just add echos and call it "magic".
Typical hollywood nonsense.

Hollywood loves to upscale things, whether it's audio or 3D. :notgood:
:erm: I like 3D though....

Downsampling is not as easy or simple as people think.
It really depends on the software you use.
+100 internets if you have the hardware for it.

Different programs use different Sample Rate Conversion (SRC) algorithms that could cause noise where there isn't or artifacts when there isn't.

DTS is compressed. FLAC is compressed too.
One can be lossy or lossless or both.
The other is just lossless.
Again, it depends on what software you use to create the DTS files.

:erm: I should have know from the start.

"DVD-Video". It's lossy DTS core audio.

DVD-Video cannot handle DTS-HD Master Audio or other DTS lossless formats.
The structure does not allow it.

There is a DVD structure out there that does offer compressed DTS audio formats to be lossless and burned to DVD.
"DVD-Audio". Not to be confused with a regular DVD.
The format is MLP. Meridian Lossless Packing.
Lossless DTS audio in a small size that can be burned to a DVD disc.
However, the playback is limited to players that can handle DVD-Audio discs.
Not all DVD players can. Not sure about Blu-Ray players. Check your manual.

IIRC, the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy soundtrack is available as DVD-Audio.

Since this format is extremely limited in demand, compatibility and understanding, it's not a very popular format.
The Social Network soundtrack released on Blu-Ray is a very reasonable way to deliver lossless audio and ensure maximum compatibility.

:rofldata: Scrambled eggs all over my face

In conclusion: I suspect this to be the lossy format of the DTS structure.

Case solved.
*sigh of relief*
I luuurve a good mystery.

That was fun. :bearclap: Another one!

My upload speed is awful, and the Files are huge! I will try 96/24 but it's very difficult for me to upload the original files!
Your DTS DVD is close to 1GB and I suspect a 24-96 downsampled FLAC version of your original files will be slightly less or about the same so you should be able to upload them, use Foobar for downsampling ;-) like this:

On another technical note,

There has been complaints that this 96/24 mastering of the soundtrack really does not live up to its full potential.
The music itself does not exceed typcial CD/DVD frequency ranges.
It peaks around the 24kHz range and then stops.
Only a few signals exceed the standard rate and go beyond.
However, not so much that it would shake the house down.

If you convert the format to 48kHz/16-bit depth, you'll not be able to tell the difference in a blind ABX test.

Down converting audio files lies in the technique and discipline of the engineer and that of the software.

Since there isn't any discernible white noise in the background or acoustical noise, you don't need to dither the bit-depth when converting to 16bit.
You really only need to dither when there is noise.
Downsampling can be best achieved with programs like Sox, eac3to and a few others.

To find out what certain programs do when downsampling, check out this site.
SRC Comparisons (http://src.infinitewave.ca/)
Select your software of choice and then pick either SoX, eac3to or Simple Sample Rate to compare results.
The cleanest one wins.

48/24 FLACs would suffice.
The extra 48kHz of nothing is just a waste. You gain nothing.

Because the word "audiophile" is attached doesn't necessarily make it so~
This is as much a gimmick as converting a 2D movie to 3D.

The 24bit-depth, mind you, isn't so bad. Great if you want to do any of your own edits.

:nokick:

I posted too late

Foobar is shit for downsampling. See my novella posted above on SRC.

Sample Rate Conversions must be done with either: eac3to (uses Simple Sample Rate Conversion), Sox, Weiss SaRaCon (:erm: Saracon is hard to find and costs money).

SoX and eac3to are free and do perfect downsampling.

I'm not being biased.
