May I have a link? I love Morgan and Stromberg's 'atomic bomb' film scores! Curious to hear how this compares to those and Poledouris' score. Thanks in advance!!!

I hate the movie with every fiber of my being

Ain't it an absolute stinker... I remember sitting down to watch it thinking "How bad can it really be?" - some intensely unlikeable people ran away from some bugs, hid in a cave, and yelled at each other. Then they ran away from some more bugs. Then they sat down and had a cup of tea. The End.

Unbelievable.

What you think of the movie, I think of your ability to sum a narrative.

I have criticised a movie; you have criticised me. Why?

My recollection of the movie is probably clouded by time (it was eight years ago since I saw it) - you could always simply suggest that maybe I misudged it and should revisit it, instead of throwing a sarcastic insult at me.

I have criticised a movie; you have criticised me. Why?

My recollection of the movie is probably clouded by time (it was eight years ago since I saw it) - you could always simply suggest that maybe I misudged it and should revisit it, instead of throwing a sarcastic insult at me.

I in no way meant to be critical of you as a person, a character, an intellect or whatever you might consider yourself to be; obviously you have chosen to respond without resorting to any sort of vulgarity, which to me suggests you may actually be a wonderful human being. I was critical of your ability to convey the plot elements of a story as you demonstrated it. As to why -- I think you did so poorly.

I cannot and do not object to your dislike of the film -- of course you can hate it and express such hate in any way you desire, if you find doing so desirable. From what you described, though, you seem to think the movie was about people in a cave. From what I remember of it, and I watched it eight years ago as well, it was an exploration of power in society masquerading as genre film and the plot was only vaguely similar to what you described (it certainly didn't end with anyone having a cup of tea). So there is that: perhaps you don't like it because you weren't paying attention. But given that pretty much no one on the whole wide internet seems to find anything "good" about the film, I doubt that if you watched it again you would find anything "good" about it either, "good" being whatever the viewer is looking for or expecting. Stories can be comprehended in different ways; we read a newspaper article about murder differently from a detective story. This is determined by our expectations. I don't think any of Neumeier's films are intended to be viewed like Transformers or The Dark Knight or whatnot, but it's any viewers prerogative to try and be outraged, disappointed etc.

Also please do not confuse my being critical with your being insulted. The first is my doing whereas the second, I believe, might be yours. But let's not be enemies because of that?

I fully admit that I have probably been overly harsh on the movie - and probably not given it its due as a result. I wasn't intending to provide an accurate summary of the film and I hope my deliberately flippant over-simplification didn't suggest that I was. My impression at the time was bad and I caricatured and exaggerated some aspects of it that irritated me for effect. Obviously my intended sarcasm failed to cross the internet barrier. I certainly didn't realise that it would generate any discussion; in a thread which is actually about the music (which most people seem to agree is excellent) and where the movie is almost universally despised. A throwaway remark about the film perhaps not being as great as it could/should have been seemed to be an appropriate interjection. I had hoped that the "cup of tea" remark would have made absolutely crystal clear that my intention was not serious in any way whatsoever.

At the time, I expected a Starship Troopers movie - with all of the satirical irony, black humour, and deliberate theatrics that Verhoeven bought to the original. From that perspective, I was disappointed. From that perspective, I consider it a misstep. Perhaps it's a good film taken upon its own merits - a reviewing with revised expectations would definitely seem to be in order. Sometimes, an attempt to take a franchise in a completely new direction can pay dividends; sometimes, it makes for a brave attempt that ended in failure.

I have no wish to become enemies but at the same time, I think it's unfair to suggest that I am wrong to take offense at your remarks. I welcome criticism and especially welcome the constructive criticism you just gave me. The tone of your previous message was dismissive and had overtones of "You withering imbecile" about it that I do not think I deserved having done nothing but make an offhand critique about what is generally considered to be a not-all-that-fantastic film.

That said, if no offense was intended on your part, no offense is taken on mine, and I thank you for your level headed and cool response; a rare thing to behold in the wilds of Internets country. :)

Yes PLease!!! really want this score!

Btw this film kinda grew on me, i think they did a fine job for a low budget take on Verho's epic film, less action, more a claustrophobic thriller/'fun to watch' cheese fest.
anyone can pick holes in this movie till the cows come home, i know i did.
I prefer to just enjoy this film for what it is, not expecting too much and not taking a dim, negative view just coz it is not equal to or better than the first film.
Its just a nice little piece of 'extra' Like a bonus short story.

Isnt this a straight to video film anyway?
Enjoy the thin story and its sub texts. Enjoy the few parts where bugs get squashed. Enjoy the good ol' gorey bits and leave it at that.
The acting is lame, tho i have seen worse.
"But it doesnt have Rico in it!!!" gonna cry?? no Rico? who cares?
i like the seedy, nasty little parasites.
My fave part is when the overly decayed zombie guy is dragged out of the closet, then has the top half of his head ripped off.

I agree the film is nothing to write home about, but do ALL films have to be amazing to be enjoyable?
(though it doesnt help to be a sequal to something that IS pretty awesome. If it was a stand-alone film, peeps would cry less i think)

Ha ha, yeah, it's not a good movie. Plus, I got killed by a giant CGI bug at the beginning of the movie. A miserable 2-night shoot up in the middle of nowhere, freezing my ass off in spring of '03 just so I could shoot at imaginary bugs. ha ha, good times!
