The Games Of 2004 We Are Loking Forward To…

Another year has gone,and more games await us.I made this thread because LOKI had a good idea and made the awards of 03.The following are in order,but i hope you submit your own entries.

1:Half Life 2 (Looks great,but delayed due to hackers)

2:Metal Gear Solid:The snake eater (set in the 60s,rumours has
it that you play as big boss in the cold war,not snake)

3:Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicles (Classic GC stle)

4:Halo 2 (This looks great,if its better than the original,it will
be a must have)

5:(OTHERS GAMES-Doom 3,LOTR:battle of middle earth,MGS:The twin snakes.

1.) Gran Turismo 4. (PS2) For all your driving needs.

2.) Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2). Hey, so sue me if I’m in a zone with the better TV colour encoding standard.

3.) Actually, that’s about it.

There’s a long list of games that I wish certain companies would just get around to releasing in Europe already, but meh.

Star Ocean 3 – if it ever comes out in America. The Japanese are already getting the director’s cut of this game and we haven’t seen the original yet.

Other than that FFXI – I know it’s already out but I don’t yet have a computer capable of handling it.

Heroes of Might and Magic V – I enjoyed the entire heroes series until IV, but I blame 3DO’s lack of money for that, now Ubisoft is the new developer and it seems like their dedicated to making V just as good as 1-3 were.

Wasn’t the original of Star Ocean 3 full of bugs? Maybe it’s good to wait a bit…?

Let’s see… I plan on getting Suikoden III like next month. I’ve been talking about this with my sister. I guess we both agreed.

The Half Life 2 looks interesting…. but I’d rather see what people can do to mod it. Usually it’s these types of games (Half Life and Quake) that interest me… not for the original game but what people can do with it.

Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Doom 3… thats really about it… next year doesn’t look too great for video games.

(Off topic) PAL is superior to NTSC in terms of Hue quality. NTSC has a bad habit of sometimes getting the hue of the picture wrong.

But I am trying to forget about TV and Radio Systems now I’ve done the exam.

(On topic) I should get my PS2 chipped.

NTSC is superiour when it comes to THE NUMBER OF GAMES RELEASED.

Yes,the number of games,but what about the quaility,apart from an obvious bunch there isnt much quality out of Japan,look at western games like,Star wars KOTOR,Metroid prime,Half life 2,halo,gta(possibly),Beyond good and evil,Deus ex,far cry.these games would never be made in japan,maybe cause they dont like first person shooters.The majority of games in japan are games with names like SUPER,SUPER,BAKABAKA PINGBONG BASEBALL COWGIRL 7/ALPHA9.07.But yes,now and again they make amazing games,FF,REZ,ZEALDA,SONIC,MARIO,GRAN TURISMO…….etc……But hey,it seems like the west is taking over games.

tim burton’s the nightmare before christmas. ill have to wait till halloween, and it probably wont be any good, but hey, it would still make me happy.

Actually…

NTSC : 320 X 240, 60hz, 30 fps
PAL : 320 X 220, 50hz, 24 fps

Better resolution, better refresh rate and better framerate. That says it all. Oh, also add the fact America and Japan both use NTSC also help. Because then you don’t have to make the conversion.

Isn’t NTSC 60 frames per second, and PAL 50 frames per second? Or is that images per second? With interlaced scanning and all.

And the reason 50Hz was chosen for PAL was because of the mains voltage supply here in Europe (to reduce the effect of the supply on the screen.)

The resolution is lower because there’s less scanning lines. Well, active scanning lines, anyways.

In terms of old games that I want to play this year, here’s my list:

1.) Suikoden III. Import it. Chip PS2. Play. Sounds so simple like that.

2.) Chrono Cross. Read above. Replace PS2 with PSX.

3.) Dragon Warrior VII. I’m sure I saw this in the import list too…

Nah, you’re confusing it with the refresh rate. As hard as it is to believe, NTSC TV is 30 fps and PAL TV is 24 fps. But I AM talking about TV itself, like a news broadcast for example. Movies, games and such aren’t the same. And actually, a "frame" and a "image" is pretty much the same thing. The main difference is that in a frame the elements are independant of the other whereas it’s not in a image. But otherwise, in terms of fluidity, it’s the same. Or so I’ve heard. I’m no expert but did some research on it.

I guess I really should stay on topic, though.

My games for 2004 ? Oh, well, considering I’ll have my share of "financial responsibilties" I might contend myself with FFCC for my Cube and FFXI for my PS2. Although I’d be interested in the already-released Sonic Heroes on Cube, Tales of Symphonia on Cube, Xenosaga II on PS2 and a couple others. We’ll wait and see. The year is still young.

PAL is superior to NTSC in terms of Hue quality.

NTSC units can also output in RGB which PAL sets tend to have from the get go while we have to bother with mods and the like, but once thats settled there shouldn’t be any discrepancies regarding hue quality and what have you.

EDIT : Speaking of MGS, have you seen that 27 minute trailer on IGN ? I’m no fan of MGS and even "I" was blown away.

But anyway there is a huge majority of games in japan that are dished out very quickly,that those crazy japanese business buy.Put it this way,awhile ago in Edge there was a new japanese games out in the arcade,you could choose a girl,thief or a pervert,and the player (istead of a joystick had a huge finger) which you would constantly poke a fake ass.Put t this way,the aim of the game was poking a giant finger into a plastic ass.now if that is what games are today just shoot me………..

No FFXI is not planned for a European release as of now.

On a sidenote, you can import FFXI for the PC quite easily. I staggered across a copy in an import shop over Christmas. The downside was it would’ve cost me �55 to buy it. Plus monthly fees, and the fact that my PC is not that great, I abstained.

Yeah I knew that you could import it. Do you know if it runs any slower over there, since there are no servers in the country and all? Any idea?

It runs okay, or so I’ve heard.

1) Metal Gear Solid 3

The first two were critically acclaimed, but suffered from being overly cinematic at time. However, its if anything like the others, this game will rock.

2) Silent Hill 4: The Room

…YES!!! This Silent Hill will feature a guy trapped in his apartment who can only travel through portals…the view will be 1st person in his appartment but 3rd in the exploration. Puzzles will be a bit more oriented along with other new gameplay elements like real time item and weapon selection for action pacing (because so many idiots whine its not quick enough) along with spirits that can go through walls, so maybe enemies will follow you now? Hopefully the enemies will be smart like the first one.

3) Xenosaga Episode 2: Beyond Good and Evil

Another huge game. The first proved to be worthy of the name, and the second one will unlock the features you saved after being the first one. What is going to happen and how will things change? Simply a waiting game…

4) Sonic Heroes

Already out on GC, I’m waiting for the PS2 version which should be released within a week I believe. The Dreamcast version brought sonic to even bigger better level, and this installment will also serve well as another sonic game.

At the moment, there’s only one game I’m after at the moment and that’s Dynasty Warriors 4 Extreme Legends. Good thing it’s gonna be released here in AUS, in February.

Does anyone know if there’s going to be a Dynasty Warriors 5? I’ve heard rumours but that’s all.

Also, if a Dynasty Tactics 3 comes out, I’ll grab that as well.

Also,Final Fantasy CC will be out,its goin to be good to see what Square enix bring to the GC.The trailers that i have seen are very nice.Graphicaly its beautiful,but will it be great.Although,along with ffcc,GC is getting MGS,the twin snakes.Looks very,very similar to MGS,i know its a remake but can it out do the original.
