Yes, we've all had a moment where a boss has just taken us forever and a day to kill. The question is: Which boss fight, from any game across any genre, took you the most time to kill?

***Breath of Fire IV Spoilage.***

For me, in terms of time from battle starting to battle ending, the longest boss fight I had lasted about 2 hours and 40 minutes, against Fou-Lu in Breath of Fire IV. The guy just would not die, no matter how many times I hit him with Ryu's attacks. I very nearly turned the PSX off in disgust as it got more and more difficult.

***End Spoiler.***

In terms of the time I reached that boss point and then become stuck on it, I can't really think of that clear an example... A lot of the bosses proved tricky first time through, but I was able to defeat them quite easily after a while.

But hey, enough of me waffling. Share your experiences here.

I played through Xenogears the first time with no clue of what to do. I barely leveled my characters, relying on their Gears to power through whatever I got into. Nearing the last leg of the game, I got to a save point, and saved it. That was my mistake. I had to fight the final battle with Ramsus, Fei's 'rival'. I couldn't go back, so there was nowhere to level. Nowhere to heal, either. I forged ahead, and fought him. I lost. Time and time again I tried, time and time again I lost. I was stuck. So I had to play through the entire text heavy, story fueled game to get back there.

The battle with Don Tonberry took me 2 hours (FFX) x_X That was insane.
I went unprepared into the fight even when it was the monster arena and I just sucked in case of my stats; Main sequence for 1,5 hour > Cast auto-life, haste, cast auto-life, hit, die, auto-life, recast auto-life etc.

x.x it took long.

Bubble Bobble, the Final Final Boss...

Took me a good long time but at least my arcade had it on free creds. ^_^

Hands downs, the final Boss in Arc the Lad II...about 1 hour and a half...

Two bosses I've never been able to beat : The Final Boss in Star Ocean II and Arc the Lad : Twilight of the Spirits.

Penance in Final Fantasy X is easily my hardest boss fight (without using Yojimbo) I think it took me something like 2 and a half hours to beat that bitch. But who can blame me the main body itself has/had 12,000,000 HP. Then you have two arms with 500,000 HP each.

Took me ages, and 7 attempts at the bastard, but I eventually did it. :D

I think the end boss on Legend of the Dragoon would have to be my longest boss fight. I wasn't really leveled up enough to fight him. I remember fighting him for 2 hours, then getting killed. So I fought him for another 2 hours and got killed again. I did this three times I believe before I finally beat him. So this boss took me about 8.5 hours to beat.

Two hours? Ha!

FF8: Ultimecia
I think I was stuck there for about a week, and attempted that battle circa seven times.
My longest attempts lasted approximately five hours. I didn't win that time. During this period my sister went to the cinema and returned without seeing much progress in my battle.
I eventually defeated Ulty in a mere three hours. :D

Ultimecia ? Woah, a final boss who's butt I oh-so love to kick. Nothing beats Aura and Mighty Guard in this fight. Oh, yeah, Lionheart also makes things quicker.

End boss of Star Ocean 2, Evad?

Corner him between Claud and Ashton and have both of them wail away at him with their most devastating sword attacks while Rena constantly heals them and casts Anti and MP restoring items on the whole party. Easy as pie, just takes a while.

Well, don't upgrade your weapons and ignore the junctioning system, plus have some really bad luck during the battle, and you will understand. Lionheart? Back then I didn't have Lionheart. I only had the first two techniques of Squall. :P And man, was it fun.

That's actually what I was doing. It was probably because of a level lack...I think Claude and Ashton were merely at level 80. So everything was doing great until he'd power up or something.

And once I did the private action to remove his limiter...big mistake lol At least I could last a while against the limited version. The "real" one kicked my butt in three seconds. No kidding. I don't have the game anymore. Just too bad.

@Misao : Yeah, in that case I could understand. But otherwise, boy is it fun to send her to oblivion.

Longest battle I had was with Emerald Weapon from FF7. Thing is I was at about level 50 when I fought him. Fuck knows how I managed it but I won, after about 50 times. The battle must of lasted over an hour. Took me 2 days to beat him at that level too.

One of the boses in FF8 made me have to restart the game. It was the one where Ultimecia absorbs Rinoa into herself. At this point I hadn't leveled at all or even cared, or cared to understand, the junction system. Just could NOT kill her.

I remember in FF8 when I got to Adel, she always kicked my arse. I had to start over, got there again and still sucko'd, so I started again using a guide :o

Was it Adel that absorbed Rinoa into herself? I don't remember. Been that long and I really didn't like FF8 that much.

Wow. The last boss in BoF IV took me like half an hour at the most.

Nothing comes to mind. Uh, no boss took me over half an hour, as far as I can remember.

Even I didn't have to restart. I think it took me... seven attempts, and finally 1,5 hours. I was stuck there for a while, I remember I even stopped playing the game out of frustration for a while. It was especially annoying when suddenly during the battle Gilgamesh showed up and killed Rinoa with the Masamune...

I was about level 40 at the time. I couldn't be bothered to level any higher. And Fou Lu kept on killing Ryu's dragon forms (the only forms that did any damage, I might add...)

Stupid Fou Lu. Cool idea for a bad guy, would've had a better impact had his motive been, y'know, more evil than the good guy's motive?

I hated that boss...

adel junctioning with rinoa took me a while too. i had my weakest characters (i always alternate after a little while). so it took me several attempts, too.

it always takes me about an hour to beat the end of any ff game (main series and x-2, minus vii and ix... ...so thats really just 8, 10, and x-2) but my longest battle wasnt a boss. it was one of those dragon things in ff3/6 in that forest that looks like the rhino. it took me about three hours. i walked away from the battle and ate and everything.

I remember that Ultimecia took me forever... probly would of took me longer if I didn't keep using Selphie's The End trick. Nothing can compare to what came next tho.

But it took me almost 4 hours seriously to defeat that damn Nemesis (FFX).... I probly cast Auto-Life a million times. I was playing it at my friends and decided to give it a try.... he didn't think I was gonna ever defeat that bitch. I tell ya one thing... I'm not doing that again.... ever!

By longest, i mean longest boss fight in general. Like, from the start of the battle, to when I killed it, and that was Atma Weapon in FF6. For your weak attack power, the guy takes ages to beat. His 22000 HP (i think) against your weak attacks, damn long time, especially when most of the time you're healing.

I can't remember if it was Breath of Fire I or II, but whichever it was that damn boss just didn't want to die. It took me hours to beat it and when I finally did *spoilers coming* the ending was just "LETS GO REBUILD OUR HOMETOWNS!!!" THAT'S IT!!!!!! *spoilers over* After such a crappy ending I refused to ever play another BoF game again.

BOF 3 and 4 have much better ending than that. Dont look them over just because you fear what the ending is about. If you play like that you'll miss loads of good games.

Mind control reminds me of Psycho Mantis, the guy from Metal Gear Solid...

***MGS SPOILERS.***

Fighting him was an absolute bitch because he could "predict" the next move you were gonna make by reading the input of the control pad. So, naturally, to undo him, there was a cheat to transfer the joypad from port 1 to port 2 of the PSX. Hey presto! READ MY MOVES NOW!!!!
