I had two of these transfered from the LPs some years ago by a pro. Stunning results. The story is: the master tapes were stolen from the vaults, hence no CD release. Hope these sound good for folks.

I would be interested to hear your transfer.

These are 320K MP3s, by the way, exactly as I got them from Usenet many moons ago. Overall the quality is good, but could be better.

Is this a new transfer or a lossless rip of the soundstage discs?

The sources are Phideas1's vinyl transfer and "Brian in Atlanta"'s vinyl transfer. Not CD rips. If you have a different version, please post.

Thank you El Cid and Phideas1 for this wonderful LP collection of Rozsa's music. These are the best sounding "LP rips" I have ever heard (special thanks to Phideas1 and "Brian In Atlanta"). Barely audible surface noise and that wonderful Analog "warmth" and fabulous soundstage. It's a shame that the master tapes are missing. Could you imagine what these would sound like with Steve Hoffman mastering to the DCC Compact Classics "Gold" series of CDs.

Phideas1
08-10-2012, 05:53 PM
I don't know who Steve Hoffman is but the tech wizard who made my two Rozsa LP transfers did so with loving care, feeling they deserved the attention and actually remastered and balanced and all that good stuff. He did the same with a recording of Andre Kostelanetz conducting the music of Alan Hovhaness featuring Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as narrator for The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (world premiere). This disc will never appear on CD. The version recorded by the Seattle Symphony is garbage and Delos has sold their pitiful Schwartz & Seattle Symphony Hovhaness collection to Naxos.

Restoration, prerservation of albums, cassettes, reel tapes, acetates, and more. (http://www.deepskyaudio.com/) is a superlative couple of guys that take your LPs or cassettes to CDs, even making beautiful jewel cases from the original LP art.

Thanks for including the "raw" versions as well, as I find the "cleaned/remastered" version of "Conducts His Great Film Music" album underwhelming in particular: it emasculates the scores, removing the richness of the sonics present in the original for a tinny, Disney-orchestra-size sound. Vol.1/cleaned is much better.
