Fire Birds was a macho action-drama from 1990 about the US Army battling an International drug cartel. Newman gave the film a suitably loud, macho score. His music for 1989's Gross Anatomy, a film about the romantic entanglements of a med student, is in a lighter vein, with some upbeat tunes and tender ballads.
Fire Birds has 12 tracks totaling about 34 minutes. At the time of this upload no commercial soundtrack had been released, but Intrada did release 16 tracks of the score in superior sound. The music to Gross Anatomy (11 tracks totaling around 23 minutes) is still unreleased commercially. The same 11 tracks appeared on the private DNCD label (#005LR). I have listened to that version and in a close comparison find that the 11 tracks are exactly the same as what I have on this disc, except tape hiss is much more noticeable in the DNCD version.
Audio quality for both scores: Good (not great) stereo sound with no dialog or sfx. Tape hiss throughout.
Tau Analyzer and EAC indicates this recording to be Lossless.
Disc was ripped to FLAC using XLD.
