Well, the regular release looks to be around 51 minutes and change. This promo is 61 minutes. So about ten extra minutes. Question is, are there tracks on the ost not on this. And, are these film edits or...?
zach66
03-12-2012, 12:12 PM
Hmhrm....strange....its even shorter than the officially released score. That one is 65.30 minutes something, and this is only 62 minutes long....
Guess we need someone to go further and analyse the score more closely from both these discs ;)

Ah! Thanks for that link! That explains a lot.
So this FYC we can look upon as a complement to the OST. Great.
Amanda
03-12-2012, 12:34 PM
Ah, but to have an actual definitive piece then, both the OST and Promo must be pieced up and reintegrated, a job far beyond my meager skills....It also means neither score can be considered definitive..:/
zach66
03-12-2012, 12:48 PM
True! And since its alternate takes you can not combine them in the way we usually can do with extra tracks - here its inside the tracks that you have the difference. I will keep them both, side by side and see them as two different entities.

The original soundtrack is more an album, less a score. The FYC promo score sounds much more homogeneous, more interesting, independent.
In my opinion, it shows the outstanding quality of this music much better than the original soundtrack.
The Adventures of Tintin score was already in the same way.

The Academy doesn't care very much for your opinion. It's so dumb, members from different branches get to pick the winners. Why do you think Hugo won Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Achievement in Visual Effects over Transformers: Dark of the Moon? The techniques and lengths Michael Bay's sound and effects teams go through to achieve what we see and hear is amazing, IMO. Sorry if I'm ranting, I was just having this discussion with someone else a moment ago. Just voicing my opinion, which the academy doesn't care for either lol
Let's not forget The Stupid Network won Best Original Score last year

Unfortunately, you are right, DAKoftheOTA.
I liked William's score for War Horse, particularly the way he ends the score for the return to the farm. Very emotional especially when combined with the way that last scene was shot. Have to say that overall I prefer his score for Tintin though.

Hey! The Social Network's score was great, and I'm happy that it won, but I feel like Daft Punk was unrightfully snubbed of an Oscar.
As for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I feel like that should have AT LEAST been nominated. The FYC perfectly demonstrates why.
No offense, but to me, the War Horse score is just another Williams composition. It's not in the same level as his scores for SW & HP.

erm....It's a sort of beautiful music. Still, I'd have to go with yes (although I haven't seen the movie, and I probably never will). I just cannot figure out what is happening during this movie, but it cannot be all to exciting. Are they nitting a nice, but sometimes emotional blanket for a lovely horse?

No indeed! Nothing surprised me here, all too familiar, so apparently this score is NOT just another Williams composition, but one that doesn't come close to other work. It did resembled something like, just another day at the office... But, mind you with an oscar nomination...and that's weird. I mean, with many movies he's made an iconic piece of music (both melody and (under)score). This is not that.
Still nice to have had the chance to listen to it. I'll try it again someday...

"War horse" is certainly not the best John Williams, but it is perhaps the best nominated score last year.
A wonderful, simple theme, great variations and precisely orchestrated and imaginative.
It is perhaps not everyone's taste, but it is unique and like the most of his works a masterpiece.

The score I just don't know, I don't feel it, you know? I don't feel a thing listening to that. Compared to the score of Schindler's list (Ok, I pick a great one) it is just flat, unmoving .

I can't thank you enough! Wish the Oscar promo's could be released commercially, they always seems a more satisfying listen. Tin Tin is a prime example of this. Hope War Horse will be equally enlightening.

Just listened to the FYC score. A much richer and more beautiful presentation, wasn't so excited with the OST, but the FYC disc is like hearing a new score.

Any chance of re-uploading. The link seems to be bad on this one.

There's already a link:
I uploaded here (
http://ulozto.net/xsc3uo2b/whfyc-7z) my copy of the promo after I compared a track I got from another user; it is the exact same sound as uploaded by ynreob , while the files will differ because of edited metadata. 299 MiB.
The password for the 7z archive is the username of the original poster in UPPER CASE. It's also shown my next message.
Password:
It is YNREOB
