Thanks for uploading. I love the Overworld theme. Nintendo definitely needs to have more jazz music in Mario games. They go so well together.

Yeah, once again Nintendo has spit on the awesomness of the paper mario we used to know with stickerstar. I found the music to be too holly jolly happy mcstoopid.

*sigh* Paper mario the original and it's sequel TTYD was sooooo superior to stickerstar and *shudder* super paper mario.

But thanks for the high quality SM3D soundtrack goomba!

Agreed. I think Sticker Star is far better than Super. Super is actually the only one I quit playing right away cause it was so bad. I just couldn't get into it at all. I regret ever spending money on it. I like Sticker Star but it's still far behind in the epicness the first two games have.

I personally enjoyed SPM a great bit, although not as much as PM and TTYD. Even though the gameplay was different, it was a good wave for nintendo to make and the game had a shitton of gameplay in there if you ask me. If nintendo stuck to making the same thing all 4 times, people may not be as satisfied and may consider the games being rehashed :/
The music for TTYD was the best imo and SPM also has some good tracks. The Sticker star Soundtrack was okay, but as you say, it was mostly too jolly, with almost no darker songs...

@Dragon: I suffered through the entire game just because I couldn't live with myself with quitting since I had never quit a mario game without at least beating it once I started.

@Goomba: That was the best part of TTYD, the dark tracks fit everything perfectly, the theme for the shadow queen was absolutely perfetto. It made you feel like the world truely was entombed in darkness and Mario was the only one who could possibly save it.

To this day, the themes for Fahr Outpost gives me chills and makes my skin crawl, especially on winter days, and don't get me started on the "Too the moon!" theme that was used when they shot you to the moon.

And the title screen is my absolute favorite title screen soundtrack out of all video games. It definitely lets you know that your in for a huge story. Coupled with the fantastic opening screen, you can't hit the start button fast enough.

Also, one of the best parts of the original and TTYD was how nobody acknowledged that they were paper besides the black chests which kept it vague and the game menus, which didn't pull somebody away from the experience. The moves that mario could do were bottom line the only immediate fact that everything was paper. All the characters made it feel like you were reading a story book where the characters didn't know they were part of the story. In SS, right off the bat, you were told everything is paper and people could bend in half and peel them off of stuff and SCISSORS and blah blah blah. It made you (me at least) feel that you were reading a story book where the characters KNEW they were in a story and exploited it.

The dark themes that were in the second one made that story so much better, such as the previously mentioned black chests eventually being revealed to be the four heroes who first vanquished the shadow queen back in the day whom were cursed to be trapped in the chests for the rest of their never ending lives. SPM went WAY overboard with the dark themes (Mimi A.K.A. twisty neck spider girl) and SS had too little. All the paper talk made it feel kiddy and it felt like it was for weak and stupid minds.

*Sigh* I should shut up as I could go on all night.

I suppose I should try to beat it at least once for the benefit of having played through all 4 Paper Mario games. Since even bad Mario games are still far better than other "good" games out there. I also agree with everything else you stated so please feel free to ramble on as you make interesting points. I shall start my Super Paper Mario completion journey after I complete Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time.

Beat that one a few months back and haven't regreted a single minute. I loved it, even if I did play it on the No$DS. Superstar Saga has a fond place in my heart as well <3 Bowser's inside story, eh, haven't played it yet though I've seen it, the antagonist is a bit on the boring side, which has kept me from getting it. Never liked Fawful as I found him to be more annoying than intimidating.

My love for Superstar Saga is what drove me to finally buy these games and it definitely reminds me of it (controls, battle system, etc.) which is a huge plus. I also haven't played Bowser's Inside Story yet so I don't know how it is. I also find Fawful to be annoying. Especially with that high voice. I always thought he was a girl. So I actually might play Bowser's Inside Story first THEN Super Paper Mario now that we talk about it.

I have extreme experience with many mario games, especially the RPG series (Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi) and I've played all those games at least thrice...
Anyways...I completely agree with you Darkshadowmark as the music is pretty badass. Even taking the time to remix the classy underground tunes from SMB into one of the final places in the game is pretty nice.

I played Paper Mario SS, twice, and it isn't the best, but I don't have a black enough heart to hate any Paper Mario game dearly. There are some things that I was rather disappointed about though like..(a few)
- No Pit of 100 trials of some sort AKA lack of sidequests: I mean, what do we do when we beat the game? finish the museum? meh. The 100 trials was the best test for you to go through when you're done, and its the perfect kind of thing you'd want to do on a portable device, because you could close it and come back to it in another location.
- The bigger focus on paper: I like the fact that the game is more papery, but I feel that nintendo/intelligent systems may have gone and taken too much time on the details of the game while omitting important core things of the main series. If only they made it as detailed and with the quality of TTYD/PM, us loyal fans would be satisfied...
- Jolly music: Out of all 80ish tracks or so, I can only pick out 3 or 4 favorites, which is usually low for me, as I said above, meh the music isn't dark enough, but you can't have dark music without a dark storyline, so read below now...
- Storyline: I know that club nintendo users blah blah 1% liked the story, but SPM was an experiment from nintendo that had a shitton of story in it. I personally enjoyed it, while they have decent creativity with some objects and as you said, mimi's shapeshifting...I thought it was pretty good. Nintendo should've given SS a deeper story, as thats what the PM series is known for...
- Lack of PM Originality: I know that Shigeru miyamoto told the dev team to use SMW only characters in this game, and that was a really big let-down, having me explore a nice (small ass) main city and talking to random toads with no names, I didn't get that ...feeling...didnt' bring back memories from the other games. Those had such brilliantly designed/scripted characters, and I really think that they should focus on that kind of originality on the next game!
- [Minor] Goomba's new look: Haha im a goomba fan as you know and I personally do not like the new designs on dem goombas :(... not good...I prefer the original goombas from the first 3
- No variety: This combines with the PM Originality section as there are like ..half as many types of enemies as there were in the first few PM's. SPM and TTYD had the most enemies ranging from like 150 or so...and sticker star only had 73 I believe? No hyper forms, not puffs or clefts wtv, those kinda made me feel that this isn't a real PM game.

I have plenty more, which I plan on writing once I get some replies, lol I could go on all night as well :D

Also, I am not as much of a fan of the M&L series, but I think they are quite good...Definitely gonna get Dream Team for the 3ds (M&L) this summer though!!

Super Paper Mario mm?
I really like SPM, although they made dynamic and drastic changes, it gave me a bit of a distant PM feel, as the enemies and lands were fuckin....different..

My ratings...(No hatism)
TTYD >----- SPM = PM >----------SS

Agreed with above post. I also missed the side quests and it was interesting to have the characters have names and stories. We pretty much only used the Toads as staircases to reach items... while I do like the jazz music, all of it was too upbeat and happy with no darker tunes. Heck, even the boss themes were pretty jolly. I also found it to be very short compared to the other games as well. There is challenges, but I'm not that into it that I would get 1,000 perfect battles... =/ Maybe someday I guess...

As for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, I'm also excited for that. The 3D graphics look very different obviously, but hopefully there will be side quests, good battles depths, etc. like the previous games and not turn out to be happy-go-lucky like Sticker Star.

OH YEAH.
Almost forgot the biggest reason why I hated both Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star.
1 little thing
very tiny
almost non-existant.
Wat was it?
Oh yeah!
NO FECKING DECENT PERMANENT PARTNERS!

PM 1 You had a range of awesome buddies to battle alongside, offering cool little quips and lines that often made you laugh. Parakerry and Watt being my faves of PM1, and TTYD went on to perfect the formula, turning buddies into full fledged companions with stories and lives.

Koops with wanting to prove himself to be a good match for his girlfriend and to avenge his dad and become an adventurer
Vivian, tortured and constantly bullied by her sisters, resisting and fighting against them. and don't even get me started on that bullshit debate on her gender...
Bobbery, a former sea captain who lost his love while he was at sea and was so heartbroken, he swore to never sail again.
Even flurrie (My least favorite of the bunch to be honest), a star, wishing to return to the limelight one last time.
Goombella's dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of lines for every single enemy and boss was absolutely awesome, giving a deep look into her character.

Every single one of the companions for TTYD was amazingly amazing, SPM? Those damn POS pixls that had NO character and NO reason for you to care for them. SS? Just mario and "kersti", Some random bitch crown to bitch at him with bitchy words and tell him to hurry into battle. *spits on the game case*

Sorreh, if there was anything that got me pissed, it was the removal of such excellent faces from the series. I hate to say it, but I don't want to see anymore paper mario games as Nintendo will just drive them deeper into the hole of shame.

I really hate to agree with this, but I do. Nintendo should quit making Paper Mario games especially with the way they're going. Hopefully the Mario & Luigi series will continue to stay strong. I guess we'll find out when Dream Team gets released.

I agree with your first parts, but there is obviously room for improvement. The ratings for the PM have dropped ever since TTYD and I think nintendo would fix their shit up soon because of that. They know lots of us are pretty unhappy for the change, but it was all Miyamoto's fault. If you didn't know, they had a game that was 95% similar to TTYD/PM for the 3DS by 2010, but Miyamoto rejected it and called it a "gamecube port".

Sorry but that's rage inducing :P and they had to typically redo the game. I can tell the intelligent systems developers weren't really satisfied with the final project, as you could tell fake enthusiasm in one of the Iwata asks interviews...

I agree about the SPM partners shit thing, but that can't be a reason why you hate a game right? I mean... If that were true then how much would you hate SS? :P

It is a very valid reason, if you don't have a reason to care for anything in a game, then why play? For me, if I don't enjoy the story, I flat out don't enjoy the game. To hell with the gameplay, I could care less about gameplay (minus SPM...I hated the gameplay in that too). Without those companions that you cared for, there was nothing good about the story for me. As for SS, I had my hopes up that there would be companions, when I heard that there wasn't, I was pissed. Everything about SS just feels wrong to me.

GoombaJMR
02-17-2013, 03:48 AM
Yeah true, but the story was deeper than the others right? or did you not enjoy the story...
Yeah SS sucks big time balls...The only part that I enjoyed playing was the *Spoiler* enigmansion *Spoiler* which was troublesome, but I did feel a little vintage paper mario there. The only thing good about Sticker Star is the dialogue, and maybe some of the idea's good designs. I dislike that there were only 2 lava levels
