A children's book, eh? I think that's awesome!

IT SURE IS. I'll probably be able to post it all colored at the end of next week.

I made this for a calendar done by the people named Ryan comics club (http://www.ryancomics.com) which I totally am not a member of- featuring art by people named Ryan for a charity named after a Ryan.

I'm in the middle of finals so I rushed it but it is ok maybe.

I second the Calvin and Hobbes observation.

Also: I'm going to send you some of my story this week.

Awesome. And yeah, the influence is pretty obvious + the night before I came up with that idea I think I had a brief talk with Ndi about the Calvin & Hobbes snowmen comics.

also:

two goauche paintings. I had to piece them together in photoshop... which is much more obvious on that second pic than the first.

edit: I also see how crappy the colors on my laptop are. When I saved them on a school computer after scanning the colors were much more vibrant... and now on my laptop they are super dead. =|

edit edit: colors bad on my roommate's computer too, so probably I screwed something up before saving without realizing it. OH WELL.

The colors look good to me, but I never saw the originals.

I really really like the first one. It's amazing.

It's just the coloring on the first one that is bad. But technically its probably the best one I've done. I had a lot more control over the paint and built it up more than I usually would. Only problem is that the watercolorish effect is gone almost completely. People thought it was acrylic instead of goauche.

also children's book is mostly done.

Click on the image! I have to redo some type and make a cover and the final 15th spread(the story more or less ends on the page before it though, so it doesn't matter too much that its not up right now). It was all colored in 2 days... and looks like it!

rezo, that book would have scared me if I read it when I was little :(

You're going to make kids afraid of old people with top hats. Good job!

The artwork is some of your most refined yet, I believe - not as complex as some of your other stuff, but it works perfectly.

A tiny, tiny criticism - i'm not sure what age range you're going for, but the text seems slightly too complex for the story. Also, the layout could be difficult to read- especially when you have two blocks of text, one in the top left and one in the top right. They're lined up, which means that some kids might want to read all the way across, instead of reading one block, and then the other. This could easily be solved by offsetting the right hand block down maybe half a line or so?

Makes sense. I will do it, thanks.

I was going for the oldest age group possible... so nine or so, I guess. I wanted it to be like when I first started reading Calvin & Hobbes when I was really young and had to check a dictionary every once in a while.

That was great rezo. But on page 5 it says;

And to thank the boy - woth utmost courtesy
which I think is a spelling error. Other than that, it was great.

Very cool and professional. I love the twist at the end, although i'm not sure the average nine year old would really get it.

Hey, does anyone think the last two pages are unnecessary and that it'd be better if it just ended on the "that it was morning" page?

I like the part with the old man, but the very last picture doesn't really fit with the rest of the story. I think that a final page with no text is necessary to bring the story together and as the penultimate page is rather text heavy, but it seems far too detached from the rest of the story. Its as if the story was about a lonely old man(since he looks out of place in the crowd), when we only realise it was an old man the page before. Maybe a picture involving the children or the theme of night and day would work better.

So the calendar what several more famous Ryan's let me make an image for because my name is also Ryan is out today. For $15. Buy it maybe if you actually use calendars but are unprepared for the coming year, I guess? All proceeds go to Ryan's Hope Foundation (www.ryanshopefoundation.com).

Also, simultaneous lol&wtf at frog getting it's head chopped off in the children's book!

rezo, you should submit something to threadless one of these days.

I know I for one would love to sport a rezo shirt!

rezo

I've thought about it, since $1000 is a nice amount to get for an illustration and I think that's their rate?(mags might pay $400 or so for an illustration in an article, depending)

But I am not really sure of what I would draw to put on a t-shirt, so I've never followed through with trying it.

Also, I finished up the main work on my book yesterday. Here is a compilation of random panels from the various stories! So don't look at them like they're comics! It's just random panels that are presented in a way that can be mistaken for being a comic!

The Love Iron(6 pages) ()

Science makes a contribution to society!(9 pages) ()

The curious happenings in the life of Ben Wilson, ace reporter(73 pages, 6 parts) ()

Life isn't a musical!(24 pages) ()

Today I am...(5 one page comics):

Those are actual comics. Opinions would be neat since I am not sure what people would think of those. You are allowed to hate them so don't not say anything if that is the case!

Finally, Middle of Nowhere - written by TK(33 pages) ()

150 pages right on the dot. I will add a few more "Today I am..." strips and other stuff that will be "book only content" and it will be around 170 pages total maybe for $15. I'm going to try and get the book done before the comics go online in february.

ALSO THERE IS TOTALLY A WIKIPEDIA ENTRY FOR RIBALD YOUTH NOW. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribald_Youth)

My comic wasn't very popular and the entry will probably be deleted, so edit the page and make it seem like the most awesome important comic out there! EVER. or not

i've been following the minus comic strips from your webpage and also the other drawings you've done and i've got to say, minus is hands down one of the best webcomics i've read. it's very creative and imaginative, it (well seemingly) has a storyline but it isn't firm and set in stone which allows you to think up of something new each time. which is not only incredible on your part but a nice mild surprise. well keep on making more comics.
