Remember a long long time ago where these little mushroom guys told you that the Princess was in another castle? Where you grabbed mushrooms to grow bigger and fire flowers to throw fireballs from your hands?
Well, have you ever considered the glitches and bugs that were in the game? The well known Minus world for example and the infinite 1-Ups from World 3-1. Lets take a closer look at the bugs and stuff from Super Mario Bros. :D
The Double Jump

The Double Jump is simply jumping in mid air. To do this, you have to grab a falling mushroom while you (Mario) are also falling. Once you hit the Mushroom, hold the Jump button while in the transformation and you'll jump again after changing. No biggy but kinda cool.
Minus World
Everyone knows this trick. You can see what it looks like in the video.
Infinite 1-Ups
Look at the vid if you don't know.
Extra Minus Worlds?
In the Japanese FDS version of Super Mario Bros, because of different program codes, you would access a completely different set of Minus Worlds. In the original cart, you can only get a minus world that is underworld and would go in a loop. In the FDS, you can get into 3 Minus Worlds.

After walking a bit away from the castle, you see the princess... floating?

After realizing you could swim, you see bowser floating upwards.

The princess again, note the coins.

There is no flag pole but you can still grab it and go to the next stage.
Yay :O
World -2 isn't much to look at, it's basically just a clone of a regular stage.

Looks strange... don't it?
Stranger?
In case you haven't played Mario enough, this is one of the Bowser Stages.. but with flying gooblers

There isn't a bowser here, just an axe.
Note that there is no Toad here. o_O
After passing -3, it thinks that you just passed the game and returns you to the title screen. o_O;
Well, thats a look at what hidden stuff you can find in Super Mario Bros. :D
Have a nice day. XD
