Yes, you read correctly.
Since buying the game around six hours ago, I've played it for around four, and the other two have been dedicated to shower / cooking / eating.
Anyone else played this game, and had much fun with it? The Weapons Master mode, and the 2 Player mode have been the two I've been working with the most. Most amusing to get a 9-2 advantage against James and lose it to 10-8 before saying "we should do arcade mode instead."

Adam, that game is so damn addictive! I had a 24-0 lead on my brother in Extra Versus mode before I got bored of horribly winning, ehehe.
stupidly addictive? more like a good game.... or something.....

I'd prefer just stupid. I hate this game. I guess it's the best of 3d Fighters, but thay says a lot, doesn't it? :p
I remember the first soul calibur on DC, and that was stupidly addictive 2. Shame on me i quit games last year in favour of more interesting stuff like... cooking omlette du fromage and.... potatos and salt and.... 4get it, i no good at cooking
what was this thread about?

Well, I'll have to admit one quote from Soul Calibur 2 had me laughing my ass off:
"I shall assist your suicide" - Yoshimitsu.
I heard him say this at the start of the battle and fell off my chair laughing.
And this game is great fun in 2 player mode. I loved playing as Raphael against a mate who had 8 players in team battle mode, and just beat him 8-0. Aah, that was fun.

Well there are two missions I can't reach in Weapon Master mode (because there is no path to them.) One in Chapter 9, and one in chapter 8. Not sure if you peeps can help me out with this?
I've taken a liking to Seung Mina's move set. And it is similar to Kilik's so all is good there. Although James is beginning to enjoy Necrid, and is busily beating me with him when we face off. -_-;;

Siegfried/Nightmare is by far the best character, I kick alot of ass with him. Necrid would be my second fave and the third is still open. I love the 2 player extra mode, this results in really cool battles.

Bah...I'm all for Link lol I mean, come on, he's fast, well-balanced, has got the longest ranged attack with the bow, and...well...it's Link for Christ's sake lol
Okay, if you want to play technically and take a "true" Soul Calibur character, I'd take either Nigthmare/Siegfried( bad-ass,strong, and even decently fast ) or Mitsurugi (well-balanced)...I also like Kilik (long range and easy to use), Seung Mina (similar to Kilik but prettier lol), Xianghua (well-balanced), Sophitia and Cassandra (They're a LOT alike but I tend to prefer Sophitia a bit more. Both are fast but could use a bit more brute force.). However, I hate Voldo (I'd normally like a claw-wielding fighter but seems like he's the exception. He's plainly disgusting.), Astaroth (Big, slow, boring, ugly), Talim (annoying little...I'd wish for her to be blown by the wind lol), Necrid (What's he even doing here ? I never really cared about Todd McFarlane and Spawn in the first place. Plus, all he does are moves from other fighters in the game),Berserker (an even more annoying version of Astaroth) and Raphael (yeah, he DOES have cheap moves. I like to play as him but not against him). I don't give a damn about Charade, Lizardman and Assasin (the first is the same as selecting random at every round, the second is a slower Sophitia and the last is a weirdly-dressed Yunsung). Who am I missing ? ...hum...Cervantes, Ivy,Taki,Yoshimitsu and Yunsung ? Ah...I guess they're okay...Cervantes and Ivy are cool but hard to master. Taki, Yoshimitsu and Yunsung are not too bad but there are others I prefer.
Since I only own and have played the Cube version, I haven't tried Spawn and Heihachi, so no comments on them.
So that was my opinion on the Soul Calibur II characters.
Yoshimitsu, Link, Nightmare and Cervantes are my best characters. Go the Cube version!
The game's not really addictive to me though, especially since I finished the normal Weapon Master Mode and the Extra one, arcade with all characters and got all 88 secrets in my first 4 days of playing. Now it's just, lol I played it too much at the start and i haven't played it in about 2 days.
Still a good game, but I prefer games that have more re-playablility, even after the game is over.

BZ, to get to those two, you have to finish it first, then you get the Extra Missions.... For one of them, you just have to complete the Exra Mission near it. For the other, you have to open up a subshapter, then an extrachapter after that, and complete the missions in it... then it'll open up. It's a dungeon full of Lizardmen. o_O;
And yeah, the game is amazingly adicitive. =D *Has finally fully completed Edge Master mode* Argh, now begins the long process of mastering characters and meeting friends for multiplayer fun. ^_^;
Mitsurugi's the best character, IMO.... Nice balance of High/Low moves.... And he's the only character whos moves I know really well. o_O Raphael's good too. I'd also use Yoshi (he's so nice to his enemies, lol...) Maxi (a bit of a button basher character but... meh.... He also looks like Elvis! I swear!) Xianghua and Taki, if the mood takes me o_O;
I dislike Necrid (WHAT THE HELL??? He's just some moronic, totally out-of-place monster, that Todd MacFarlane gave to Namco because they had absolutely no use for him. HE HAS THE PERSONALITY OF A TOASTER!) Also, Yunsung's a bit shitty, IMO. He literally makes the bottom tier himself. He's got a heavy lack of low moves and unless you use his cancels effectively, he's no good..... Sucks. Yay for SCII! :B

Top tiers do include Nightmare, Raph, and Mitsu.... Talim is pretty close. Everyone else is just fair match except for Necrid and The Bonus Charactes.
I remember when I got up to level 99 in both US and JPN versions.
JPN Rank - Ultimate Counter Stopper
US Rank - Ultimate Edgemaster
What sounds better? Counter Stopper of course! :D 9999999 on everything baby!

Personally, I disagree with you guys who think Raph is cheap. He certainly isn't. Granted, it is ungodly simple to play a poke-poke-poke game with him, but its very easy to exploit that with repels. Oh yeah, and a little something called "duck". ;) Almost all of his lunges and attacks are high-hitters. His moveset is limited in low-hitters. My fave with that is his spinning horizontal that hits high and low. And come on, who doesn't love his sword parry? Raph was meant to be played as an offensive and counterattacking character.
Onward, my faves are Ivy, who is hands-down the best in the game, Voldo, who goes in for second place, Astaroth, and Raphael. I also took a shining to Yoshi and his surprise tactics. Oh yeah, and Nightmare is nice, but gotta keep the momentum and his sword moving.
I was utterly disappointed with the special characters, Necrid included. They all threw the game off balance (especially Link). They should never do that again. Link is one stupidly cheap motherfucker, period. He has NO weaknesses at all. It was a poor job on their part in trying to balance him...
Other than that, it was good, but they need more characters and new fighting styles. There weren't enough. And they need to bring Hwang back into the storyline of the next one, and perhaps pass the Soul Edge onto a new character. Hwang is own all.

HA HA HA !!! This is in part why I liked him. He has no weaknesses :) But , yeah, I guess it makes things unbalanced. Altough, strangely enough, I never thought Link was difficult to beat, at least not compared to Raphael :p I dunno why, somehow he manages to give me trouble when I fight him as Nigthmare...might be just me though.
Why do people like Voldo ? I don't understand. Somehow I can't find that he plays well... And he plain annoys me with his "mpf ! mpffff !!! mpff !!" all the time lol But that's my opinion here.
And, strangely enough, most people here can't stand Necrid...oh, I "really" wonder why...:p
I wouldn't really know about Hwang because I haven't played much of Soul Calibur, but I mean, if he's something that looks like a cross-over of Yunsung and Assasin...Well, I don't know...Perhaps this could be good and then again, perhaps I won't care.
But that last point you gave made me remember something : They shouldn't have brought characters with fightings styles similar to olders ones and replace them with the new ones. Like, no real use in bringing Cassandra, especially if you're going to put Sophitia as a secret character easily unlockable. And don't bring Yunsung. keep Hwang instead. :p Once again, it's only my opinion.

Voldo is one confusing guy who can do good hard hitting combos... I think.
Yeast & Stuff

Allow me to explain why Voldo kicks ass....
1. He's been around since the very first Soul Edge - A veteran of the series, many players feel a home-like familiarity, especially those who have been playing since Soul Edge. Compared to the rest of the characters, Voldo has remained relativily the same, with the added stances he received in Soul Caliber. Everything, from his K+G throw, to his H+K pinwheel attack, to his blind stance, and somersault is readily accessible to us diehard Soul fans.
2. He's a sharp dresser - But more importantly, his appearance and everything about it is meant to confuse opponents. Sure, his goggle-and-cape Elton John number from Soul Edge was arguably the dumbest idea ever, but that was just a diversion to catch you slightly off guard while Voldo is skewering your innards and spinning them around.
3. His fighting style is hands-down, the best ever - Voldo's unique and absurd style creates a sense of godliness amongst those who take joy in watching him move. Also, in terms of diversion, the only thing you can equate his style to is that of drunken boxing. Voldo can attack, in most peculiar ways, and can easily shred opponents with his wicked katars.
4. He's too cool for words - Voldo doesn't even need to talk to be badass. In fact, he doesn't even need to be looking at you to do so. Kind of like Pootie Tang.
5. Unlike other characters *coughLinkcough*, Voldo is well-balanced, and pretty fun to master - All the things that make Voldo the badass he is come at a price--his mediocre stats. He isn't strong, he sure as hell isn't fast, and his range sucks. Unlike a certain other elf who is a button-masher's dream *coughLINKcough*, you can't just expect wins with Voldo. Humiliating others who dare call Voldo a fag takes time, but its worth it to watch their faces when they're done calling him names and done getting their asses handed to them.

Link ? A button-masher's dream ? Oh, come on...sure, he's easy enough to learn, but not necessarily to master :p Hell, I'd dare call Kilik a button-masher's dream but not Link...My ex-girlfriend could beat me with Kilik by button-mashing and not with anyone else. That was the one and only time she'd play SCII...heck, the only one time I'd see her play a fighting game ;)
And how can one be well-balanced if his stats are mediocre, his speed is not all that and his range sucks ? You've completely contradicted yourself here lol That one made no sense. On the other hand, you could answer that saying Link isn't well-balanced because he's got only strong stats and no weaknesses. I would tend to agree, but at least Link has no weaknesses even with his range which is okay with all weapons but the Megaton Hammer and good with Biggoron's Sword or the Great Fairy Sword while by saying Voldo is well-balanced you give three weaknesses he has right off the bat ...:confused:
Oh, but yeah, Voldo isn't a fag...far from it...I wouldn't want to have him sit in front of me because I definitely know he can kick ass, hell everyone in Soul Calibur II could kick my ass lol But I can definitely call him a freak because...well, admit it, that's what he is :p
In the end, the only one I'd say who's well-balanced in the true sense of the term would be Mitsurugi...Because he both has no real weaknesses and no real strengths. Plus he's got a good mixture of high and low attacks. Oh, and since I haven't played the first two games, I might be wrong on it, but I think Mitsurugi also has been there since the first game, right ? So people should feel right at home with him as well.
Which brings me to the question : Who exactly in SCII has been there since the first game ? I think I know them all but perhaps a Shriner could enlighten me on it ? I think these are the ones that are there since Soul Edge :
Mitsurugi
Nightmare (if you consider him and Siegfried as one)
Sophitia
Taki
Cervantes
Seung Mina
Voldo
and, hum...that's it right ?
And another thing : yeah, Namco should pass on Soul Edge to someone else...I want Siegfried back. As to who should get Soul Edge...I haven't the slightest idea lol That could make another interesting thread though :p Hah, judging from the character endings, I'd say Raphael :)
And while we're at it, also give back Soul Calibur to someone, but not necessiraly Chai "Just Kidding" Xianghua...just because I'd like a change, not because I hate her ;) Let's say I'd give this one to Siegfried because after losing Soul Edge to Raphael he'd regain sanity, claim Soul Calibur, and fight and destroy both Raphael and Soul Edge to amend for his sins...Yeah, that would ALMOST make an interesting plot twist...ha ha ha !

I also disagree that Ivy's moves are cheap.
I used her religiously in the first game.
Her moves are not only variational, they give hefty damage. She can deal do many tricks to fake you out with her sword to whip like weapon as well.
She is definately one of the top 5 fighters.
"Onward, my faves are Ivy, who is hands-down the best in the game..." An impecable choice, sir.
She is my favorite, second favorite is her father Cervantes. A very brutal, agile, devestating combos, and just a damn great powerhouse in general. Voldo certainly ranks up there as well.
Though I'm betting Link would rank high up if I played with him on the gamecube version. :)

Ivy also has this.... intimidation factor I should call. She dresses like a bondage queen, she has a whip/sword...
AND SHE HAS THE 2 BEST THROWS IN THE GAME.
But if you want to do them, you'd might have a hard time executing them. It can be done by doing a few 360s but if you want to get it down faster, you'd might want to spend an hour a day on that move alone. :O

Yes... but it's the sword/whip interchangability that is her real beauty. And sure, it can be used cheaply...but so can any characters moves. Even bullshit ones like Necrid and Astaroth. Still doesn't beat a good, solid Mitsurugi, though....

I finally got my hands on this game, and its great.
The gameplay is tweaked, doesn't break any ground, but is definately faster and makes a few improvents on the characters.
My only problem is the presentation in this game...the opening sequence simplly great....but it feels too contempoary.
Characters have lines that do not sound fit for the time, the music similarly does the same on slight occasions (mission failed sound) adn the game seems slightly anime inspired.
However, this is easily a game worth reccommending.

Man I love this game. I was playing it with a friend of mine in the local arcade for months waiting for the home version. The Campaign in the arcade is wicked. They could have added that for an online feature. I must have spent upwards of 50 in the arcade getting my rank up. My mate must have spent over 80. The madness. The home version kicks ass also, but Hehatichi is a crappy character. They could have had another comic charcter, like Spawn, or something. Mitsurugi, Nightmare and Asteroth are my characters. Im a beast with Nightmare, though he isnt the most rounded character. >>triangle is too good a move.
