Finally official this time, Silent Hill will be a movie. There is a director and producer already given. Check out www.videogames.com , it will show it.
Also, what new ideas do you think Silent Hill should incorporate in gameplay to keep it fresh?

Firstly, I will try not to be too pessimistic, but I get the feeling that the movie will be bad. There seems to be some sort of law where upon the film of a game is crap. Super Mario Bros, Tomb Raider... I can't say Resident Evil because I haven't seen it, but the general impression is that it isn't that good a film.
I will hold my judgement until it's made though.
Secondly: I should really play Silent Hill, but for some reason playing the demo of the PSX game scared me too much to consider playing the full version... And I'm quite easily scared.

have to admit the first Tomb Raider was a hugely "guilty pleasure" movie but the second comes off as a movie which had effort in the script in all areas.
I doubt this movie will be bad for two reasons:
1) The director and producer
The director is credited with "Brotherhood of the wolves" which was also a horror movie and received terrific reviews.
The producer is highly acclaimed for the movie "Spider." There is a lot more talent here than the general video game movies.
2) It has far better material.
Resident Evil, and even Tomb Raider has had substantially weak writting. Silent Hill is far heavier on plot and more so on atmosphere, which makes it perhaps more fitting as a movie than a videogame in that respect and according to some critics (The same critics who hail the highly flawed Resident Evil gameplay and have little credibility at the same time. :))
I thought the Resident Evil movie was actually a better movie than the game is (but again, is that really saying much? LOL.) But still suffered from major script errors.
While Final Fantasy the movie was good, the only problem I had was it was highly dishonest to the videogame series.
For these two reasons, it will most likely do better. The first Tomb Raider and Resident Evil didn't have particularly critically liked Directors or any other technical aspects.
So assuming they go off the material for the most part, I'm expecting the movie will do well in terms of quality. The box office, is another story. Because of the growing legitament complaint on videogame based movies, people will unfairly pass it up.
Should this movie do well, I have a feeling they will test it out with Metal Gear Solid which would also be a great movie, and perhaps more successful at the box office due to the action atmosphere and higher popularity

Usually when companies make good games into movies they mess somehting up. Resident Evil was a good game but the movie was horrible. I am looking forward to this Silent Hill movie because the game is really good.

I haven't played the first Silent Hill game, but based on the second and third I would think there is a lot of potential for a great, well maybe just good, movie. I can only hope... :spam:

Sounds like fun.I'd watch it, unlike Resident Evil. Silent Hill owned Resident Evil storyline wise, but the gameplay was kinda weak.
But isn't "Brotherhood of the Wolf" a martial arts/fantasy/whatever type movie?

i loved the video game movies! i love tr, resident evil (which stars milla jovovich, one of my faves!), super mario bros, and even wing commander. okay...street fighter and mortal kombat were bad...but street fighter had van damme and he rules all!
sadly, i think the ff movie was the worst video game movie ever.
anyways...i heard that madonna was already cast as the lead a year ago...or was that parasite eve (they were going to make it into a movie)? no, i think it was PE. i think that they could make it really good, and i know that i would go c it. i seem to have a liking toward video game movies.
and gandalf is right, mgs would make a good movie--it already kinda plays like one.
i think duke nukem would make a good movie. and dolph lundgren looks a great deal like duke.

I actually thought FF was one of the better ones. Say what you will about FF, it took itself seriously. My only problem is its completely dishonest to what FF is, which is a fantasy movie, an epic. Not a sci-fi.
But I digress...
A Duke Nukem movie would feel like a male version of Charlie's Angels. Sounds...interesting to say the least. :)
I think they could definately go far with MGS again as its an extremely cinematic game, filled with life and cut-scenes, to a point of fault at times.

My concerns with a Silent Hill movie is that it won't...ummm.....well, to put it bluntly, it won't be anywhere near as fucked up as the games are. Granted, I haven't played Silent Hill 3 yet, but I know that Silent Hill 2 is the most messed up game I've ever played. I'm curious about it, though.

i just got finished playing my first ever survival horror game, and it was silent hill 3. i fucking loved it. personally, now that i have finally played one, i would LOVE to see it on the big screen. it had such a great storyline and realistic graphics anyways that i think that these games should well translate.
**sigh** now im gonna have to start playing a whole new genre. all those resident evils...where to start?
Don't play Resident Evil unless you do it on the Gamecube.... you probably wont want to play anymore survival horrors...
Play Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve 2 if you haven't ever played them.

... The FF Movie was WEIRD. "They're ghosts! They're aliens! They're... ALIEN GHOSTS!" I was so excited, but it failed to impress and seemed generally silly.
And I would be really, genuinely, so severely surprised if the Silent Hill movie is of a decent quality, I would go into cardiac arrest. :(

I have that same fear partially. Some of the ideas like everything bloody, bodies hanging, it might be hard not only to do, but would cause people sensitive to whine to no end.
I really know this movie could be brilliant as hell....however, I think the problem lies with who is doing it.
The other problem....is the pacing issue. So many people whine (I think without much basis) how slow the game is, they might try to add a bit too much action. This game at it's core, is a fear fest horror game and should be made into a fear fest horror movie.
Right now the director (who did the well received Le Pacte de Loupe) is directing the Silent Hill movie. HOWEVER, I believe while he is a good choice, he is not THE choice. I think David Lynch would be better here (Mulholland Drive). He is unconventional, into things non-sensical, and has an extremely good creative flare.
