NOTE from the original uploader:

A few years ago there was an "expanded" bootleg for this score already that took a few minutes of unrealeased material from the rear channels of the DVD. But the DVD has much more to offer than that as you'll hear.
Some tracks of my edition are straight from the DVD channels, others are a combination of DVD and OST material and others a carefull re-cuts, done by myself.
Those re-cuts may sound cruel in some moments but they're a direct replica of the ones that were done for the movie. I altered only a few moments to correct flaws in timing so that it would be more listenable.
I spend A LOT of time on creating this edition so it'll be nice if you'd keep that in mind while listening to it.
As a bonus I included a cue called "Zombies" that Kamen composed for Martin Scorcese's "Amazing Stories" episode "Mirror, Mirror". It is ment to be distorted but Kamen used the unaltered version later for the finale in Die Harder and the sound editior used it again at end of Die Hard with a Vengeance ("To Fallen Comrads"and "Finale").
Enough blabla, enjoy it!

Great work, thank you ...

Thank you!

One question : one track seems to be missing between your tracklist and the actual files : it's "33. CAR CHASE".

Is it merged with an other track somewhere or does that refer to an other version of the score ?

Just weighing in some thanks! Cool work. Great to finally hear that train bomb section, the evacuation, christmas and of course the final piece :) All great stuff. Also wondering about 'Car Chase' though? I bought the original Vengeance OST some years ago and enjoy it but it certainly missed out on some of the best key themes from the movie. I don't think the themes that play when the school bomb is about to go off feature in either of the two predecessors? But that and others in your selection are great motifs from the third film.

I wonder quite what the motives behind 'Johnny comes marching home' but the lyrics in the second version here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3k8H_9SjoM) make it sound like an ode to john mcclane. When you watch it in the film it always seems like a victory march for Simon but now I get the feeling it's kind of their demise theme, cos it stands strongly for Mr McClane. If anyone has info on the reason it was used I'd be interested to know!

For general trivia I'm trying to remember a scene in another movie or TV show where some people run into a movie theater and the final few moments of "the train gets it" are playing with that scene on the screen. I have a suspicion it might be an old X Files episode but if anyone remembers seeing DH3 referenced in another TV episodes/film please let me know :D

Thanks again for the tracks.

La La release this December 3rd double CD bonus tracks don't miss it if you are a Die Hard Fan! Probably the best score of the series from Kamen!
This will sell out very quick as Die Hard 2 double cd did from Varese last month!

There's one cue here that isn't on the La-La Land release

So, LLL only left off one cue? Did they say what the reasons were why that release is only expanded? Are some music reels lost?

I gues he means the Bank Invasion intro. It's very likely that this is a library cue or something and not something Kamen wrote.
As the editor says in the liner notes they temp tracked the scene with the Dr. Strangelove version of "When Johnny...". And the one in the film sound a lot like it (even though it's not it).
So my guess is it's a re-recording of the Dr. Strangelove tune that can be found on some sampler.

Franklin is right. However, in addition to the film version of "Bank Invasion" seen below, the LLL set is actually missing two other cues.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EGewYAchJs

Apart from "Somebody Had Fun", it sounds like there was another wild snare cue recorded and used sporadically throughout the film (and over the film version of "Bank Invasion"), but that snare cue isn't included on the LLL set for some reason. Another instance when that second snare cue is used occurs when McClane enters the Federal Reserve and walks up to Karl, the security guard.

Also, I couldn't find the vamping percussion beat heard twice during the Harlem sequence, when McClane turns around to show the racist billboard, and when the street gang confronts McClane. In the film, drum rolls from the cue "John and Zeus" are laid over the percussion beat.

In any case, I contacted Eric Lichtenfeld, the project consultant for this new release, and he graciously replied that the music he heard in the Youtube link was not on the tapes. I'm still waiting to hear back from Neil S. Bulk

The snare when McClane enters the lobby is the same as heard in the bank invasion intro. And like I said that's most likely a library cue of "When Johnny...". Just as the rap beat in the harlem scene. I highly doubt it's by Kamen. Might very well be the source music that the sound designer Mark Mangini contributed to the film: "Gift Rapped" (that title says it all doesn't it?!) and/or ""Westwood on a Friday Night".

I'm sure lalaland didn't left anything off the album. Enjoy the stuff that's there! Who'd seriously miss a few cheap synth drum loops and a cheesy version of "When Johnny..."?!

they call it 'expanded', so they did leave something off from the original score. It's just weird that they did a whuppin' 2CD release and left two or three minor cues off, that's all.

franklin_d
12-26-2012, 03:01 PM
I know what you mean, but my point was that they didn't leave anything off. The "missing" music is most likely source material not composed by Kamen.

Donnor
12-26-2012, 06:09 PM
Even if the percussion underscore during the Harlem did turn out to be source music, I would want it on the set for nostalgic reasons. That being said, nobody is accusing LLL of dropping material on purpose; it's a legitimate query when a fan appreciative of the label's work wonders about music that was left behind.

I disagree about "Bank Invasion", though; my theory is that what's heard in the film was a last-minute rescore by Kamen that unfortunately couldn't be found alongside the master tapes (and I heard this version of "Bank Invasion" in the Blowing Up Bonwits featurette as well). In any case, if the film stems for the music still exist, they could possibly contain the missing material I'm referring to.

franklin_d
12-26-2012, 06:18 PM
Yrah when they made the DVDs back then they seemed to have access to all the film stems. They used music in a deleted scene from DIE HARD, that wasn't on the lalaland set. I guess in the ten years between the DVDs and the new edition the stereo filmstem got lost an only the crappy mono source survived. It's a shame.

I'm working on a film version: Sources are the BD, the LLL and the DH1 boot. But you'll have to wait a little bit. Because some cues are really the hell for editing ;) Concerning the drums:In my new edit I've used the one from the previous boot and it's sounding great.

Film version of the score, or film version of a particular cue? Also, which drums are you referring to?
