For the past year, I have been saying the following words at many different times, to many different people:
"I should REALLY finish Final Fantasy V."
The thing is, I can't get myself back into the game. It took me six months to work out where I was meant to go at the start of the third world you find yourself in, and when I was battling through that, I just found myself getting bored of the same old, same old feel. I had no connection to the characters, I didn't really care about what they were fighting for, nor knew why X-Death was so evil.
Is it worth me playing this game to the end? Should I force myself to play it to the end? I know I should as a matter of principle, but there are many other games out there I would rather play...

Hmmmmm... you should.
I got out of the game at some point myself, because I got stuck and could not find my way, it was pretty silly and I.... uhm... its emberassing now, but.
FFV was well worth playing, especially nearing the end. There was a lot to discover, the 12 weapons and stuff, sidequests, etc, etc... It was a game richer on items and side quests and secrets than many of those modern FFs, although they surely have the better stories and the more interesting characters.
Just give it another try? And be it just to make fun of Butz, the dumbest FF hero ever.

I would finish it if only because, in my opinion, it has a really great ending. Not only that, it actually has alternate endings, based what characters you have alive at the end of the final battle.

When FF-Orgains and cronciles cam out for the PS-1 I started all games. But when the PS-2 came out, I could play it on the PS2 because I would have to start all games over again. I didn't want to do that. Unpluging and switching gameing systems was just too much work. So, till this, they remained unbeaten; unfullfilled fantasy....

1_W1nged_Angel, you win.
Nah, seriously, I know the topic is already a wee bit old and Bahamut_ZERO will probably never finish FFV in his life... but he should. *poke poke*
It's gameplay, man. It's mysteries and riddles. It's a game where not everything is already well known and written all over every damn website, as it is the case with the more popular FFs. It's a personal experience.

HEY!!! Just because I've been playing the game for two years and show no signs of progressing doesn't mean I'll NEVER finish it. You never know, I might get bored or fall insane and try to finish it.

Why is no one talking about how awesome the job classes are? or how awesome it is to make something as hard as Omega Weapon? and then talking about the job classes all over again because they're so awesome?

I keep saying i'm gonna beat FFV too, but I never do.
The closest I got to beating the game was the LAST battle and I got my butt handed to me. Then I got pissed and figured I was doing something wrong, and deleted my game off my memory card.
One of these days I'll beat it. ;) If I can beat ALL of .hack within a 2 week span and not be bored, then i'm pretty sure I can beat FFV.

I've been playing through FFV again when I can't get on the PC for FFXI. I find it kinda dumb how powerful !$Toss is, though :x
I mean, seriously, 4500+ damage to all enemie, only costing 4500+ gp? Sounds like a lot, but at Dragon Valley (which is a mountain??? So confusing >.>) you can get in fights that give 1000+.
Other than that, it's awesome.

Actually $toss costs 1000gp per enemy. And it isn't that powerfull.

I know this thread is ancient and rotting but what the hell.Just stating a fact about gilgamesh i mean in ff8 hes a warrior to help you (a crap one but nonetheless a warrior)in he was something cool in another game (not too sure which ff) hes even a God in ancient text but in ffV hes a boss and a sucky one at that hes a joke and on top of that *POSSIBLE SPOILER*He gets banished to the X-Zone where when u find him and hes pissed scared of all the monsters.anyways now that im done bitching my final conclusion is Gilgamesh in FFV is a pussy :D .

I'll make you a deal, Adam. If you ever beat FFV. . .I will too.
But this goes both way, mind you. ;)

@Omni God
I disagree.
Gilgamesh in FFV is an enemy who, despite being the main villain's closest follower, still maintains a sort of good relationship to the characters.
I couldn't help but grow to like him. And I had the impression that he kind of liked the group, too. When you fougt him at Exdeath's castle, he even asked about Galuf, and seemed a little upset when he was told the story.
There wasn't any enmity between him and the heroes around that time... I cannot remmeber if there ever was, actually. ^^
This makes him an interesting character. I'd love to see more like him.

I'm exactly the same, BZ. I got so far in V and I've lost interest... I don't even think it's a bad game, I'm just lazy or something. But I do that with lots of RPGs. I'll probably finish it soon enough. ^__^

I actually finally picked up the controller and stayed with the game a couple months ago, and now it is one of my favorite of the FF games. I guess because there was such a serious tone in all of the other games and in FFV all the characters just joke around and the "plot twists" are just so out there that you can't help but laugh at them.
*Randomly walking in a mountain* "OH NO AN EARTH QUAKE OUT OF NOWHERE!" "Look! The mountain has a gaping hole in the path now!" "Don't worry, I have a rope! *throws it and party climb across*" There was no basis for this scene in the actual story, it was just kind of there... and the hole in the path in no way effected the game, it was just completely random. It had me laughing pretty good to say the least.
