Hello, I have a quick question to ask about the FFVI download from the Playstation network. I am used to the FFVI for the SNES and was told that this version has some extreme differences. I would like to be able to play FFVI on my PS3 and was wondering if anyone who has played the two has any information on the changes that have been made. I wouldn't want to miss out on Terra's green hair!

I haven't downloaded the PSN version so I have no idea what that version is like, but I presume it's the FF Anthology version that was on the PSX/PS1. The main differences with it was the addition of FMV opening and ending sequences, plus Ted Woosley's original translation was fixed up a bit (for instance, some of the Esper names have changed: like 'Tritoch' is now called something else which I can't remember at the moment). Phoenix Downs are now also correctly named instead of the silly 'Fenix Downs' they were previously called.

Other than bad lag at times during battles (a result of poor emulation), I don't remember there being too much difference with the SNES original - the GBA version had more radical changes if anything.

Did you just call something from the original translation silly? HOW DARE U http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb1/ConstantMnemonic/Sparky/burningup.gif

The main problem is the huge delay to opening the menu. I would hope to all that is holy that they fixed that shit.

Life3, bitches.

Not the original story translation, but you have to admit some of the original items had some odd names ('Fenix Down' anyone? :P Yes, I know that was simply because of character limits, but still).

Alright, you got me there. I'll punish myself in retribution by playing FFII NES version. :P

The few logical parts left in my mind won't let me say that they're "better," but I do have an affection for all the stuff unique to VI. Vicks, Tincture, Fenix down.

I also really like numbered spells instead of faux-latin, etc.

The PSN version is exactly like the FF Anthology (FFV and FFVI for ps1).

You get a new opening menu where you can see CG cutscenes, look at enemy profiles, listen to the OST, etc.

Along with that a new opening scene.

Thats pretty much it.

I've played only the SNES and PSX version, havent played the GBA version, but from what I hear its a direct port of the PSX version rather than the enhanced GBA version.

Thanks everyone! I heard they cut out Sabin and Air! But seeing as that is not the case, I shall invest!

Unfortunately the Playstation Network is currently down for maintenance as I type this, so I can't log into the PSN Store to check, but I'm pretty sure that the PSN version of FFVI is compatible with both the PS3 and PSP. I don't see why SE would only make what is still a SNES title at heart PS3 compatible only.

But I'm not 100% sure on that so it would be best to check yourself once PSN comes back online.

Afaik, all PS Classics downloads work for both PS3 and PSP. Although how well you can play it on a PSP due to the lack of L2 and R2 buttons are a different question altogether. Though, unless Square added something to the game, R2 and L2 should be unnecessary.

That would be because of the silly little name change to SEN (Sony Entertainment Network).

Well, I checked the PSN Store again a while later, and for some stupid reason, FFVI isn't listed on the European/Australian site - only FFV, VII, VIII and IX are. It's a bit odd that FFVI is skipped for some reason (but then, this is Sony we're talking about).
