Hi again, it’s been a while. I grant you with the soundtrack for APRIL IN PARIS from 1952 with Doris Day, Ray Bolger and Claude Dauphin. The soundtrack was never released for some odd reason, although Columbia Records released four tracks from the film by Doris Day but not as a soundtrack. I got the tracks from the movie and in some cases there are some noises and a very small amount of dialogue. Two of the songs may not have the right title, I could not find them. So here it is, 63 years later. I do hope you enjoy it.

Day and Bolger, certainly one of the more unlikely pairings in casting history 😉 I’ve seen it once … and don’t remember much of it.
The title song is still its best number.
Thanks a lot!

Thank you, Foxturo. I didn’t know the Russian Vernon Duke and he’s another of those composers whose songs make me think "OK, joyful, catchy, easy and wise on the symmetries, harmonically beautiful, and I want it to play again. Damn, how do they do it?". Writing a really good happy song -or any good song- is not as easy as it may seem.

I compiled this info from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044370/ and the movie, to tag and rename the files:

April In Paris (1952)

Music by Vernon Duke.
Orchestrations by Frank Comstock.
Vocal arrangements by Norman Luboff.
Musical Direction by Ray Heindorf.

# Duration Title Performed by Lyrics by
—————————————————————————————————————-
01 [1:14] April In Paris (Opening Credits) Warner Bros. Orchestra & Chorus E.Y. Harburg
02 [2:03] It Must Be Good Doris Day Sammy Cahn
03 [1:44] April In Paris Doris Day E.Y. Harburg
04 [4:47] Life Is Such A Pleasure Ray Bolger E.Y. Harburg
05 [2:13] Give Me Your Lips Claude Dauphin Sammy Cahn
06 [2:18] I’m Gonna Rock The Boat Doris Day Sammy Cahn
07 [3:16] I’m Gonna Ring The Bell Tonight Doris Day & Ray Bolger Sammy Cahn
08 [1:40] I Know A Place (*) Doris Day Sammy Cahn
09 [4:40] That’s What Makes Paris Paree Doris Day & Claude Dauphin Sammy Cahn
10 [2:12] I Ask You / April In Paris (Finale) Doris Day & Ray Bolger Sammy Cahn / E.Y. Harburg

(*) A.K.A. The Place You Hold In My Heart
And there’s a funny thing about "That’s What Makes Paris Paree" (youtube (https://youtu.be/rUpeJfwvtAc?t=188)): it’s a sort of "lyrics-ostinato", where Day keeps repeating "The Eiffel tower" after Claude Dauphinr’s lines, and this rang a loud bell… because it’s exactly the same resource used in Alan Menken/Glen Slater’s song "Let’s Agree To Disagree", from the TV series Galavant. In this case, Vinnie Jones doesn’t reply with something new to Mallorie Jansen’s preferences but keeps repeating his choice of beer (youtube (https://youtu.be/9B9rjRzlWtU?t=31)).

Looks like modern musical composers/lyricists drink from the classic fountains, doesn’t it?

Oh, and don’t miss Mrs. Day belly in the first video. No surprise from a dancer, but she was indeed in shape! 😀

Thanks again for sharing this. I had a good time with it.
