It was a shame she had to die, but i don’t feel sorry for them…
Aeris’s death gave them hope ( in a way, especially after the Ancient Key business with Bugenhagen) it also gave them purpose and desire ( revenge) and it is possible Aeris knew exactly what she was getting into and what it meant for her…

It is sad that she died, but it would really mess up the storyline if that did not happen.
