Hi everyone; I like the community you have here.

Since this is my first post, I’ll start by saying how much I love videogame music (I currently have ~20GB of videogame soundtracks and remixes :)), even though these days I don’t play many videogames.

Anyways, on to my question. I would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for good (melodic) ambient / atmospheric soundtracks? My favourite soundtracks at the moment are Unreal (original; not Tournament), the Myst series (esp. Riven) and Ecco: Defender of the future, so if you’re familiar with any of those, you’ll have a better idea of the kind of music I’m looking for. 🙂

Cheers,
Bren

I have a good collection of very nice ambient/dub/chill-out/space music although they aren’t soundtracks but if you’d want some recommendations or something then post here or PM me.

I have quite a few non-soundtracks too; though I find many of them tend to feel a little more "aimless" / "unpredictable" / "neutral" than I prefer. Maybe you can suggest one or two to start off to see if it’s the kind of thing I’m looking for?

One of my favourite tracks is Unreal’s kran32; it’s pretty much just a repetitive echoing drone with a touch of melody on top. I can fall asleep whilst listening to it. 🙂

Just remembered a few more examples of the kind of music I’m looking for; Doom (PlayStation version; completely different to the PC one), Final Doom (also PlayStation) and Blood (PC).

Well, start out by going to ambient.us and listen to the tons of album samples on that page, and I’ll see if I can upload the album or similar genre.

I was planning to made a similar request (or maybe I already did ?)

Here are my own games soundtrack that I listen :

Ecco The Dolphin (Mega-CD version. Deeper than the ocean itself. Simply a master-piece !)

Doom (psx) and Final Doom (psx) (I never find something similar… excepted in silent hill, see the "SH-ost 1, track 21 – far 01:14". Sometimes I doubt, is it from doom, WTF ???)

Quake (pc) (not really relaxing but very deep)

American Mc Gee Alice (Thread 43630) (psychologic horror ambients and themes, very charming)

OverBlood (psx)

Siren (2004) Forbidden Siren (Thread 39469) (atmosphere and ambient horror)

Fatal frame 1 to 3 (ambient horror)

Silent Hill (Thread 46737) (ALL are great !!!)

Clock Tower – The First Fear

Clock Tower OST

Blade Runner – Los Angeles 2019 (Thread 39373) (great futuristic atmospheric background ;))

Homeworld 1 (space opera)

Homeworld 2 (Thread 39756) (space misc.)

Colony Wars (1997) Complete Soundtrack (Thread 39725) (space orchestral, not so slow to fall asleep but great themes)

Exhumed (egyptian themes, saturn version)

Legacy of Kain (psx?)

Prince of Persia – Sands of time

Playmag (1996) One hour of music (vg compil) (Thread 39450)

There are others, but I think there aren’t really the same type.

Also, I remember now what I was trying to find, it is a particular kind of music, space/ambient music with samples voices, with a far echo effect, giving you the impression that you are totally out from space and/or time, sometimes even dead ! (Panopticon, does it talk to you ?) I have 9 of them, I will upload them soon in a new topic.

Thank you for the Myst idea, I never tried them.

BTW, where did you found your doom psx tracks ? Do you listen them from the psx game ? I got mines from the wad included in the jdoom psx pack sound, but it is mp2 in very low quality (~3 listening hours !)
