PS. I hate to say it, but overall I am not impressed. First over burn symptoms? Lack of imagination? Lack of time? I haven’t seen the movie yet, and perhaps it locks perfect with the acting, but the music generally cannot stand by itself – a thing that he strives for as he mentioned in one of his last interviews. I keep finding motifs and melodic snippets from all his previous scores from Philomena, Tree of life etc. as if he tried to do a collage and that distracts me! Perhaps it will grow to me over time…

Love the blend between Desplat’s vintage string writing for his French scores and the thematic narrative from Angel Illarramendi’s scores (not in vain they’re both referred as the heirs of George Delerue). And he recorded the score one week before the movie was released on Berlin’s film festival. And I like how Desplat now records his scores after Godzilla, similar to his sound from the 00’s, but with improved dynamics (the music feels much more alive and organic).
