NOTES
Alain Goraguer is mostly known for the music of “La Plan�te Sauvage” but he is also a talented jazz pianist. In this film based on Boris Vian’s eponymous book (“I spit on your graves”), he composed a jazz score which demonstrates his love and proficiency in jazz music.
Andr� Gosselain is the pseudonym of Andr� Hossein (Father of Actor / Director Robert Hossein) who composed twenty or so scores, mostly for his son’s films. In “Toi, le venin” he demonstrates his predilection for small ensembles inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet (vibraphone, piano, bass and percussions) sometimes enriched with brasses.
The score for Marcel Carn�’s “Les Tricheurs” is a surprising anthology of jazz, with contributions from big names such as Stan Getz, Roy Eldridge, Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, Maxim Saury and his New-Orleans Sound.
This album is a true testimony to the livelihood and modernity of jazz music in the late 50’s and how it permeated every aspects of French culture.
