Haha…ok, so after buying Final Fantasy XI, playing for a month or so and then being sucked in by the man again, i’m back in Cerberus, back in Vana’diel….

And this time, I intend to stay. I’m a student again, which means i’ve got 90% free time, 10% study, so i’m hoping my Level 75 Samurai will be attainable.

However, i’ve got one of my good friends living with Megan and I at the moment, and i’ve bought him a character to play – a Tarutaru Black Mage by the name of Miridian. When I started off as a Warrior, it was fairly obvious what to do – kill things, get items, sell items, get better weapons, kill more things – but starting as a BLM is a more tactical challenge.

So, I humbly ask one anyone with BLM experience (hi Typo :D) the best way to start a new BLM Taru character.

For those who are interested, Miridian is based in Windhurst at the moment.

(it’s Windurst.)

Anyways, BLM can be a hard first job to level in FFXI, though I wouldn’t say it is the hardest of all 6 Basic Jobs.

Make sure you learn how to make Macros. Macros allow you to use spells straight off the bat without having to go through any menus. Next is trying to learn as many spells as you can from the get go. Use the AH and scan around the Magic Shop at Port Windurst for spells. Basic Adventurer stuff includes having Signet AT ALL TIMES when going out so you can maintain an income.

Now, Soloing is one thing. Pull out your weapon, nuke, and start bashing and nuking at the same time, you’re most likely going to alternate stone/water. Be sure to cast debuffs as well (debuffs are stuff like Blind/Poison/etc). Learn the timing of your spells so you can seemingly flow through Stone/Water.

Partying is another. Party from level 10 and up in Valkurm Dunes. You CAN go there at 9 however. This is where you need to learn to control your magic. Unlike Soloing, you have other players that are design to take damage and you’re not one of them. In this case, you need to slow down on the nuking and gauge the amount of "Hate" your Tank (the guy that is taking damage) has and the amount of "Hate" you have. Doing more damage and casting more spells grants more hate.
