Intro
I did this Edition shortly after Spider-Man 3 in an attempt to have some fun. But for some reason that plan didnt work out because I discovered that I didnt like the music as much as I used to many years ago. The Witches of Eastwick is one of the scores that brought me to filmmusic. From the moment I saw it on TV I was hooked (Secret of NiMH and Poltergeist played a similar part). Before I bought the ‘complete’ Eastwick Records version some 15 years ago, I just wasnt able to listen to it apart from watching the movie (it never occurred to me to look for the OST). Furthermore, the first two DVDs I ever bought were this movie and Contact. Because I can be traditional, those two were also my first Blurays. When Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released I wanted to listen to some more John Williams than what was stored on my harddrive. So I went to my shelf with a sudden craving for wicked witches only to discover that it wasnt there. Imagine, I had moved the CD to the basement! Upon listening to it, I just didnt like the sound inconsistencies so I decided to do something about it. This Edition is the result.
Sound
The tracks not on the OST were ripped from the US DVD which contains an isolated music score track. While that one doesnt contain dialogue and sound effects (hence the term ‘isolated’), it still was an example of music-only stems used before mixing (just like what was partly used for Hook). Which means you can hear lots of artifacts connected to awful, mid-’80s style dynamic compression besides some lossy compression artifacts, problems with spatiality (instruments seem to "walk" across the stage) and drop-outs. I wasnt able to erase all of these artifacts, which would be impossible, but I was able to diminish them. I also was able to partly match their sound to the tracks from the OST. Compared to my other Editions, I didnt have to apply too much dynamic compression. I only altered some small parts. The overall EQ was adjusted to be a bit more contemporary… but the change isnt that big. Really, the tracks from the OST were sounding very good for their age. What I should have done but didnt was asking Calidoran for a link for his new DVD rip. Most of the issues I described above would still be the same but I would have been able to include Dvorak (Seduction of Jane) and "Nessun Dorma". Alas, I didnt. I also erased some very redundant pieces (John Williams composed redundancies?? Yes, he did), one of them is included within an extra folder. And because John Williams likes to create out-of-order suites, I had to take two of them apart. In two cases, this sounds odd: "Wicked Witches" starts too sudden, I couldnt get rid of that impression. "Saving Suki" was problematic, too. In the movie, two tracks were combined to form one piece. I tried to do the same… but it sounds strange since the movie isnt there anymore to support the sudden change in tone.
Cover
The cover is not as good as the music, Im afraid. Not one really beautiful poster designs exists for this movie. And no one makes an effort as evidenced by the hideous Bluray cover design I included just for people who always want that damn "Deluxe Edition" banner. Please excuse the badly executed cutout of the movies’ title, I tried my best without working my ass off, this is the result. Finding fonts that suited the titles’ design was incredibly difficult. Nothing worked. In the end I opted for a really, really fancy and vile font I usually wouldnt allow to come near me if my life depended on it. But in this context it sort of worked. For everything else, I chose Adobe Garamond. Much better. Surprisingly, for a movie this old I was able to find lots of HiRes stills so the quality of the other pictures used for my set is good.
Now A WARNING:

Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much.
… and the women, too. I love all of them, theyre all very good. Veronica Cartwright was fantastic. And Richard Jenkins (but then, he always is). What did you think about the movie? I watched it again, too and I thought that the end is a bit too much.

The end is nothing like the book it was (losely) based on
and thanks btw 😉
THANKS A LOT.
This said, I would humbly suggest what could be an immense improvement for this score, if technically possible: The seduction of Jane. As you know (and clearly comment before, in your initial post), this piece is strongly based on Dvorack’s Cello concert in B Minor and it is intimately linked with the "rehearsal scene" where both the cello and the piano are arranged and played to lead directly to this outburst of the orchestra. It would be awesome to finally have a track where to enjoy the piece as it was conceived by Williams, as a whole, with this exemplary management of diegetic music changing into mood music in the blink of an eye.
Whatever your choice, many thanks in advance!
That makes me watch the movie again….saw it way back on VHS…..Thank you for your work, Sonic !!!
I didn’t bother to include some of the source music, but i have everything still sitting on my HD and could easily convert whatever parts of it you want to prefered format and send you a link. If you’re interested, let me know 🙂
Yeah, probably… but no, I wont add Dvorak’s piece. Usually, I dont like to touch a finalized Edition again (unless I want to remake it).

Yes, I might be interested. But only to sample the quality and if it actually might be worthy of inclusion. Remembering the movie, it might not work at all.
If you would be so kind to provide just the source cues? 🙂 And if you have it in the original format (ac3) that would be fantastic!
But come on, you gotta stop giving us crap about loving those "damn" Deluxe Edition covers. That’s what you get for initially stamping them that way, now that design just equals QUALITY in our mind, and at least for me, makes all your projects visually unique in my iTunes collection, and I’m a big stickler for visual consistency…. Sorry, Sonic, we are just too hard to please, what can I say! 🙂
Anyways, thanks again for everything you do, you’re the best!

Guys is it possible that you share with me the Dvorak source music so I can try to handle it and create de "full" version for those interested??
Thanks in advance!

Visually unique? 😀
But I stole it from Varese, its hardly an original idea 😉
Well, I will include it for future releases, just to please all those looking for consistency (I can relate to that).

Your links are horrible. Everytime I try any of these various links to download this soundtrack, I get a movie downloading into my computer, or massive amount of ads, and spyware. Why can’t you put this soundtrack on MEGA?
Because MEGA’s boss is awful. And just as constant as this complaint pops up, I just as vehemently offer a solution: JDownloader (http://jdownloader.org/).
Or an adblock plugin…
I can rip the complete AC3-file for you. Would be just above 300 MBs if i remember correctly. I could zip it up and upload it to a temporary host like zippyshare or something. Not sure about splitting an AC3 into an AC3… and 300 MBs isn’t all that big. Or would that be a problem? It’s a 4 channel stream btw. Front, rear and center.

If you give me some time i can do that one track for you.
Perhaps, but MEGA itself is sweet, and works great, leaves my videos up there for months, even years without deleting them, it allows multiple downloads, no capta crap, no spyware, no ad popups, no virus’, and runs faster than any of the other storage sites. But that’s okay, I found a 30 track version of WOE, in FLAC on another site, and it sounds really good.
And Jdownloader really blows as a program.
That.

That would be marvellous. But I have to warn you: I might not use it, so you might be ripping and uploading it for naught.
It’s called sharing and helping out 😛

Yeah, but… but… but… thanks. I will try to incorporate parts of the source music. Completely unaltered material. Fantastic. 🙂
Hardly. You just don’t know how to use it properly. I suck at working with software and even I can figure it out. Heck, it goes so far as to automatically put the link in there when you copy it to your clipboard… it’s a pretty simple process, at least to me.

Even with that downloader, everything comes back with error file not found
In that case the respective filehosters probably deleted the files due to inactivity.
Don’t know how I missed this when it came out.

Just a little oddity: the files are unmodified but I unthinkingly copied the password from a different thread of SonicAdventure (blame it on lack of sleep).
To extract the files, type NotAliensAgain,George!
I’m enjoying it right now, Sonic. Thanks for your work once again.

Awww, that’s so great! Thank you for the re-upload, thumbs up to you! And I love the password switch. It’s the one for Crystal Skull so it’s still Williams. Very neat.
I had given up hope to see this revived given the time passed. I go along with our shriner fellows, lots of thanks first to you Sonic for your gifted contribution, and then kooke for re-enabling us to enjoy it!
Even fools can show gratitude!
And this is a good day to celebrate music and sharing, isn’t it? I’ll have a real beer right now for you all, guys and gals. Cheers! 🙂
Thanks for the flowers… but… my reputation cannot improve anymore. So I would rather give reputation to people who are helpful. And I have a question: how did you produce that link?? You know, the link that provides a neat list of the reputation this thread received? I’ve never seen that before!
I discovered it today, too.
Many thanks to Sonic for outstanding work as usual, and kooke for the re-up 🙂
The Rep Bunny has visited you both of course 🙂
