I am currently almost finished with Chrono Trigger, and man if I didn’t have a strategy guide, I would have no clue what to do.
After I beat Trigger, I am going to start playing Xenogears. Do you think I will need a strategy guide for this game? Is it a difficult game? Can I go throught he game w/o a strategy guide? Thanks.
in your case, yes, a strategy guide is needed for Xenogears.
If memory serves me correctly, after you pretty finish up 12,000 BC and the Black Omen rises. You’re ultimately given a list of tasks from Gaspar that you can or can’t do.
If that’s your reason for needing the guide (figuring out where to go next) then you probably won’t need it. But if you need the guide to figure out how to get through dungeons you might need it. There’s a couple of dungeons in Xenogears that are just a total trainwreck and chore to get through.

So you are saying Xenogears is pretty Linear?
Because I thought CT was pretty straight forward, but I would get stuck on the EXACT location of where to go and would need to refer to my strategy guide mainly for the maps. Apart from the maps, a strategy guide for me wasn’t all so needed.

Xenogears is incredibly linear. To be fair it’s been a long time since I played it, but if memory serves me correct the game is incredibly linear. If maps are an issue from you then I’d recommend a guide. There’s a few brutal dungeons in that game.
The battle system isn’t brilliant either.

LOL topopoz, it seems like you hate every game. Is there any games you do like?
Xenogears is far more linear than CT given that she lacks multiple endings. but I’m thinking if you’re the type of person that relies on guidebooks (and you may not be), you’ll want one for Xenogears. The game always tells you where to go, what to do, or at least gives you a good idea of the path
XD
I tend to get that a lot, I like games, a lot of them… Even some cheesy ones(like digimon world).
Xenogears had a good appeal to me, but there’s a certain part in the game that you’re trapped in a cave, the camera’s+random battles+uncomfortable jumping physics= RAGE!
We can talk about games I like anytime just ask…
