The entire point of this specific thread is for a high-resolution presentation, and mp3 is the polar opposite of that.

Well. The dude who made the DVD-Video using DTS96/24 standards used Minnitonka software.
Professional-grade software with superior results.
The quality should be equal to this.
In other other forums, there have been discussions that "audiophile" version sold on HDtracks really isn’t worth getting in full 192kHz sample rate.
For the most part, it’s really just a waste of space.
In particular forum, computeraudiophile, they scanned the entire (HDtracks) album through several scanning programs to determine the Dynamic Range Compression and found it to be weak, considering it’s made with today’s technology, from studio masters, and none of the material has been lost.
The DRC is very "medium".
With a very "medium" DRC and all that extra Sample Rate, you get a huge waste of space.
There is no extra quality. You gain nothing, really.
With the mastering done to the HDtracks release, they could have sold it as a 48kHz/24-bit release and achieve identical quality in a drastically smaller, suitable file size for its quality.
Downsampling a piece of crap is only bound to cause artifacts and more crap to appear.
Craplets, if you will.
Plenty of others have looked at the HDtracks version (of which they bought personally) through Adobe Audition and found it to stop at the tpyical 20-22kHz range.
Granted our normal hearing can’t pick up anything beyond that, even if there was anything beyond that in the first place, but there really just isn’t anything there.
Some samples exceed the normal range. But not enough.
Just. Not enough. :/
As far as the other dude goes, you’ll get identical quality here.
Bigger Sample Rate doesn’t mean bigger quality.
Not by a long shot.
Ultimately, this release is a gimmick release, like 2D-converted-3D movies.
If you can find an upload where someone converted it to 48/24, go for that.
At least you get the Sample Rate that’s actually worth having in HD.
Not to mention the bit-depth to boot.

Studio Masters converted to HD digital audio for HD sales.
It’s becoming a trend.

The 192kHz Sample Rate really adds to the file size.
So does the 24 bit-depth.
But the SR is what makes it a titan.
The 96kHz should be about half the size.
If this were converted to 44.1/16, it would be about 200~mb.

The 96/24 version of Atticus Ross/Trent Reznor’s "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (USB version), also had nothing to offer beyond the normal 24kHz range.
The DRC was pretty mediocre for that as well.
