Before that, they were just edited. You Spoony Bard was used in place of a curse in FF4. It was kept in the US re-release for classic value.

What is our world coming to when beautiful video games (and eminem) have to use cussing so much? IT’S COMING TO A PRETTY FUCKING AWESOME PLACE BABY YEAH!!!

Yes, cursing is so cool.

The only thing it could do is improve the world.

….sarcasm, in case any of you were wondering.

I think language, when well used, is a good thing to have in an FF game.

When a character is about to die, or something, darn it just doesn’t cut it for me.

But I’m glad Square has yet to go very profane. I’d definitely enjoy things less.

And stuff like "You spoony bard" is funnier then any cuss word a character could utter.

I dunno i think it depends on which character does all the swearing for example Cid and Barret theyre characters are made by short bursts of swearing and it gives them character, to see a character like Tifa swear wouldnt suit her character. So it depends who does the swearing i think.

Yeah just so you know I was also kidding about that but yeah I think it is funny MOST of the time when they do that stuff.

No what would be funny:

[Semi-Spoiler for the ending of FFVII]

When sephi gets killed by cloud, it would be funny if he was like "U FUCKING BASTARD, IM GONNA KILL U, IF I WAS LIVING. SON OF A BITCH THIS IS FUCKING PAINFUL AS HELL, WHY THE FUCK AM I STILL A FUCKING LIVE FOR FUCK SAKES JUST FUCKING DIE"

and when cloud and tifa are hanging over the edge and it shows tifa’s boobs. cloud could say " HOLY FUCKING SHIT, CHECK OUT THE SIZE OF THOSE FUCKING NOKERS, GONNA GET LAID WHEN WE GET OUT OF HERE. fUCK TIFA YEAYEA."

[/SPOILER]

Ah, cursing. Final Fantasy VII is an interesting game for this one. Cid had a lot to say and they let it through on the Playstation version, but then when they came out with the PC version, they censored most it. So "SHIT!" became "SH——#%!!" and so on.

Well cursing is just a part of our life, I dont see the point in covering them up… It makes a game fake if nobody curses.

It’s swings and roundabouts. Sometimes cursing can accenuate the feelings of what a character is feeling, like anger or sadness. At other times, it can be completely misplaced during an emotional moment. Using correctly, it can be a powerful tool. Used incorrectly, it can make the game appear like a poor B movie.

I have no problem with it, nor it being censored. I’m pretty old nowadays, I’ve seen most insults. I can usually guess what s&*! means, or something.

I still think that they should make up their own curses, if they’re that committed to using it.

It’s great when they do it properly, but swearing for the sake of it sux. But your right, without swearing, the dialogue wouldn’t seem natural enough.
