The chance Elmer Bernstein had to improve upon the original soundtrack wasn’t wasted in this condensed version as the maestro knocked this one out of the park. By the 1960’s the common industry practice was to release a standard promo LP that advertised the just released film. It wasn’t believed a market for releasing a complete original soundtrack existed at the time but 30 years later that market did come to exist.
