I was wondering how would one use the vgmdb to tag soundtracks & albums. I can’t really find a guide or tutorial on how to do so :/

This freeware seems to do it: https://www.neowin.net/news/tagscanner-6032/ , but I didn’t try it. Don’t forget to check it with your virus scanner or online with https://www.virustotal.com

Google reports 12000 results for "VGMDB" from Musicbrainz (https://www.musicbrainz.org). Their client and tagger Picard might be an alternative if they have those albums in their database.

Thanks for the input, Zeratul13, because it’s always risky to suggest untested software. Their website (https://www.xdlab.ru/) -not the article I included in my above message- shows they "Added vgmdb.net (Video Games Music Database) to list of servers for FreeDB/CDDB technology" last year. It may work, although translation would require a different method, like what redbook points below.

The problem I run into is that the stuff I download is terribly tagged to begin with, and also I want to translate the album / song titles. I also like to set Album Artist, Genre and Catalog to my own liking.

So I end up using Foobar2000 and just manually entering all tags. I have a system of the following workflow

copying the entire track listing from VGMDB webpage
pasting it into Notepad++
Running a macro that trims the track number, track time and extra spaces (front/back) from each line.
Copy the new list of track names from Notepad++
Select the songs in sequential order in Foobar2000 and go to properties and select "Automatically Fill Values…" and select Source -> "Clipboard line per track"
Then type %title% in the pattern window

The upside is that it lets me tweak the song titles before adding them. Google Chrome has a very nice feature to translate Japanese to English built-in. So I translate, then copy that as my source. Don’t select "Romaji", that’s not real and can’t be translated. Select the actual Japanese tab.

It seems like a complicated workflow, but once you do several (hundred) times, it goes pretty fast and the results are exactly what YOU want. I can add some more tutorial steps with pictures if you would like to know more.
