Hey all!

So I’m sure you heard the news that Apple is axing iTunes. I’ve been looking for a decent replacement for a bit, but haven’t found anything. Any ideas? Particularly something that can be used on an android phone as well as computer? I have intricate playlists and am not sure how to transfer them over. I’m at a bit of a loss now. I’ve been using an old school iPod for most of my portable music, but it looks like that won’t be an option anymore.

Apple isn’t axing iTunes. They’re just splitting it up into different apps on Mac for the new operating system. Music, Podcasts, Movies and TV. Also the iTunes app will still exist on both Mac and Windows.

Yes, but I’m looking for a good alternative to iTunes/Music, or whatever they’re going to be calling it. And recs for simple, stand-alone, non-bloated music programs for Mac?

This is where Apple gets you. Your Mac can only update to the latest OS for so long. Which means you’ll have the older version of iTunes. So when you can’t update past a certain point, but can update your iPhone to iOS 13, iOS 13 will not be compatible with that older version of iTunes.

they couldnt completely kill itunes. as in "the program will cease to function immediately" since iphones and ipods still requires itunes to transfer shit. i have a very old ipod and i need itunes for the music. if itunes stopped i would have a fancy paperweight

You can still sync your iPhones and iPods through Finder in macOS Catalina and I think they will release updates for the iTunes app on Mojave and Windows to support iOS13 syncing. They did that with High Sierra which I kept using with iOS12 for like half a year until I upgraded to Mojave.

MusicBee is pretty good and I believe can sync with Apple products. Interface is almost identical to iTunes

Clementine is a far superior option:

No changes for the Windows version for now.

I have the same question, but for an iMac. Any recs?

The Music part of iTunes it’s just calle Music now. Still 100% the same for listening to music or syncing your iPods.

I’m sceptic about existence of real replacement of iTunes. I’ve tried couple of apps to transfer files, players, but ended with iTunes each time. Is it a matter of habit?

If you’re on Mac you won’t need won’t need to find a replacement as "Music" will be the same. On Windows iTunes will still exist as well.

Call into your local thrift shop and pick up a mint condition Victrola 8-in-1, for all your music needs. They’re all the rage these days! Nobody needs all this digital crap; it’s all a fad, and it’s fading fast. Victrola is where it’s at, homie.

You’re welcome in advance.

There is no replacement for iTunes. Just like there is no replacement for Foobar2000. They do what they do very well. And if you can manage to like more than one thing at a time, you can enjoy life to the fullest.

iTunes provides a central hub for your music to be enjoyed all through out the house and on multiple devices and computers out in the rest of the world. But to use all these features you do have to spend money in some fashion….that’s just the way Apple is. Take it or leave it. But at this point, if you want to enjoy your library outside of your local network, you are going to be paying money or being pressured to pay money.

It’s worth looking into MacX MediaTrans for managing music, then Musique and Clemetime seem to be the big favorites for content management and player support.
