Hey there fellow shriners, I just want to start off by saying that the reason I haven’t posted much in the past few months was because back in November my hard drive crashed on me, and I lost a sh*t tone of music, including two renegade edits (one being another Jerry Goldsmith score and the other from a request) and a couple of new soundtracks, that have since then been posted on this forum, thank god. So I was in pretty rough shape for a while, trying to recover as much music files as possible, but I’m back on track now, and ready to start posting again. 🙂
So with that being said, I’m proud to present to you all the re-release of Ken Thorne’s complete scores of Superman II and III by La La Land Records. The files are ripped in uncompressed WAV format, using EAC as usual.
The scores were originally released along with Superman I and IV in the (now out of print) Blue Box Edition that was released from Film Score Monthly. But because FSM is banned on this forum, and with this edition released by LLL Records, I feel that its nice to finally re-share these magnificent scores in all of their glory.
Now that LLL Records is re-releasing John Williams’ score to Superman the Movie this year, I’m gonna be making my own versions of all four Superman scores in the future. I could use a lot of help for some things along the way, so if anyone likes to help out, just shoot me a PM and I would greatly appreciated. Reputation and Credit will certainly be given, and can request a score for me to work on for a future renegade edit (as long as its under forum rules of course).
One last thing I would like to mention is that the scores themselves sound amazing. IMO, the music stands out a little more than the original release, and the dynamic range is just damn near perfect. Maybe a few improvements could be done, but that could be just me.

A thank you and reputation are always welcomed. 🙂
If you have any problems with the links (even if it comes up "Permission Denied" and you try 8 times to get the links) I’ll get right to it.
I hope you really enjoy these scores the same way I have, good luck with the links, and have a great day.
Peace Out! 🙂
Super THANKS, Dark Knight 86! 😉
Is there any difference between these and the original supes box set from years ago

This is from La-La Land: Both film scores utilize the same stellar master as the 2008 “Superman: The Music” box set from FSM

Would anyone have the full artwork to this set? Thanks for helping, in advance 🙂
Does anyone know if the scans are available?

Thanks for the up. Would also really appreciate the scans if anyone has.
Cheers,
Great share! Very many thanks! Rep given.
Thank you so much for your sharing!!! This release really sounds amazing, and corrected a mixing error in my opinion (the original FSM CD3 track 28 is presented with the left and right channels slightly delayed, now LLL CD 2 track 5 corrects this error). Now if you have the Superman I and Superman Iv scores that would be most amazing! The download I got for Superman Iv lacks tracks 12 to 19 of CD2 for some reason. Anyways, a welcome release indeed!!! Thanks again!!!
If I’m not wrong, it seems that LLL contains 5 new tracks in the source music section:
CD2:
7. Sunday Meeting 1:30
10. Late Night Country Music 0:53
12. Lois’ Pad 1:17
13. Desert Riff 0:23
15. Kids on the Bus 1:31
The STM source music on SII/III is indeed exactly as it was recorded and now mixed from the 2-inch masters. On the FSM box all I had were fragments from the mixed dubbing stems that were given to me on DA88 tapes in 1999 for the Rhino project! They were already cut to fit the scenes in the TV version, so I had to editorially turn them into listenable tracks (so some have repeated sections). The only really "intact" piece was the Hawaiian music, which is why that was on the Rhino release (plus it was actually in the film) and then carried over to the FSM box.
Matessino previously stated that the new Superman IV release contained a few minor tweaks in presentation – little fixes he didn’t have time/resources to do on the Blue Box release. I don’t believe he ever detailed what EXACTLY those changes were, but I imagine they aren’t very noticeable.
EDIT: Found the quote on FSM:
"as I had to make a new DDP for delivery I took the opportunity to listen and make some, as I said, "very, very, very minor" fixes. A tick or two painted out and a cleaned-up ending here and there, that kind of thing. And that’s it. Now, if anyone who was passing on it feels that makes it worthy of a re-buy, then by all means go ahead. This was dusting the floor, not installing a new one. Hope that clarifies.

Yes, it does help! And so my guess is somewhat correct. I’ll keep the blue box presentation, because in my opinion, that feels more natural in places. Thanks for clarifying!!!
I second this.
I heard an interview yesterday on the new Superman releases, and the record producer Mike Matessino said that they didn’t have all the information about the films in the accompanying La La Land booklets. If you previously owned the blue box put out by FSM, there’s a 160-page book that came with the box, and the information on that one is more complete. So, just for your reference. 🙂 Therefore, I don’t quite care about images and scans for this. The music alone is quite enough, and it is very, very good!!!
Understood… Regardless of our individual opinions, the idea for many people attempting to expand and organize their collection is to try to maintain each issue as a separate entity on its own. Hence most of us, when we share these, tend to specify the almanac numbers of the issuing company(ies). So I am of those who believe that each artwork for the album in question is specific in complimenting such issue. But in the end I agree, it is an individual choice,

Thank you for your opinion. Yeah, I agree both ways – we can have our own ways of managing our collections. For me, being blind, all those scans are not easy for me to access. A friend recently volunteered in reading some of those booklets to me, so I can have them along side the music audio files. I think that’s an interesting idea.
But recently listening to some of the podcasts involving the Superman releases (particularly Superman: The Movie) has led me in learning more about the scores, and how they were prepared for release. Such hard work this is!!! I think it really need someone to be interested in it, who have the patience to do it well.

Can you tell me what podcasts you are referring to? I’d love to listen to them. Thanks.
Here are two podcasts done about the Superman releases, and they go into great detail about, well, pretty much everything.
