A few months ago I visited Fink. He had bought a new TV and while I was setting it up we were listening to some music. Among the CDs he played for us was ‘Prince Of Persia’ and I immediately knew that I wanted to master the sessions that were released here years ago. So when I returned home I immediately started to work on this one and Yared’s ‘Troy’. This one here was the most difficult, as it happens it a recording engineered by Peter Cobbin (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0167838/) and the scores he recorded are difficult to master most of the time. Not because the recording sounds extremely good, no, it’s because one has to rectify the errors he often makes. Many recordings by him sound either muffled, overtly crisp or both (!). He has a self professed love of mixing ancient analogue stuff with state-of-the-art digital equipment. Sometimes it yields good results. If he keeps it at decent levels. But most of the time he doesn’t and then you’ll get a mess like ‘The Hobbit’ or ‘The Deathly Hallows’. I’m quite sure he’s a capable engineer but despite his success (he won an Academy Award for LOTR II) I just don’t like his style, I can’t help it. So beside the usual "making-soft-stuff-louder" I also had to linearize the sound, turn it into something that would sound good enough anywhere you listeners choose to play it. I was successful… sort of. I like what I ended up with (especially considering what I started with): it has very deep bass, sounds crisp enough and while the stage is pretty compact stereo seperation is without error. But before all that I had to repair the sessions. Some tracks were cut mid-melody. Or suddenly lacked a reverb tail. Or someone hacked into a reverb tail. In those cases, I elected not to delete that material, I just patched it up with material from alternate pieces. Thankfully, I was able to use pieces that weren’t "alternate" at all. IMO, this is the best version of this score so far. Yes, it’s loaded with stereotypes. You have almost everything: a run-of-the-mill Arabian tonality / progression, orchestration, some instruments western orchestras don’t have… and all of it spruced up with synths and RCP ostinatos. But I’m a sucker for this kind of music, despite its tackiness. With the result that I’ve enjoyed this score tremendously during the last months. I hope you’ll do the same ๐
The cover is really nothing special. Yet I actually researched Persian art and how it compares to the Iranian art of today. The latter is strongly influenced by islamic styles while the original Persian art is light and colourful and loaded with beautiful symbols and logos. The official design material for the movie obviously was more inspired by Persian art (with a slight hint of contemporary Iranian art) but without any style or good taste with the result that most material looks a little cheap. It also doesn’t work well for square covers. So please forgive the very mediocre design of those 4 covers (3 are pictured above).
P.S.: as usual, I combined tracks to form bigger suites. Apart from 2-3 times, the transitions are seamless. I also re-titles some tracks as I didn’t want the pieces to have the tacky names used for the OST.
P.P.S.: the HiRes version is of course based on my 32/96 masterfiles and not an example of the Loudness War. The FLAC / MP3 archive contains the Loudness War material – and if you don’t know what that means or don’t care enough about sound, just take this one ๐

You’re now Repped at last ๐
Will you ever find some time for some John Powell Scores?
Sometimes his scores are so good mastered like "Pan". And sometimes you get this "overbassed" disgusting thing like "United 93".
Especially "United 93" needs a mastering from you.

I don’t think I will tackle those, sorry. I don’t even know them ๐

Huge thanks! Only one remark: can you make the film version of Market Chase, i.e. switch the parts to how they were? It’s strange to hear the ending first and then start of the chase.
Nope ๐
No really, I tried to have them like that. But the flow didn’t work. So I switched them.

Fantastic work. One hopes you do something to fix Jupiter Ascending in the near future.
Well, I certainly would. But sadly, Var๏ฟฝse is not allowed here.

Thank you very much, your editions are always the best!
Thanks! ๐ Not many people seem to think so though. They give this thread one star… so I must have done something wrong. Or it is a person who doesn’t like me personally and gives every thread I open one star to have his revenge.
Well, I certainly would. But sadly, Var๏ฟฝse is not allowed here.
yeah…pity…was hoping for that too ๐
anyway…thx for another great edition

I would have released Jupiter Ascending already (not expanded) if Var๏ฟฝse wouldn’t be this difficult.
Don’t let the haters get you down, most of us love your work! ๐

Thank you a lot for the kind words ๐
I don’t even mind that someone hates me; I’m a vocal person and bound to make enemies. No, I would just like to know why.
Thanks for the nice words, dear. But you can also thank yourself, you were the one who played it for us. Weren’t it for you, I might have never touched it. And I really don’t care about the number of stars, I just want to know why people don’t like it. That is what bugs me.
(And very much looking forward to your work on Yared’s Troy!)
Thanks ๐ But actually I don’t know if I’m going to release my version. It’s not longer, just chronological with remastered sound. And I think those aren’t enough reasons to release it here.
That’s fair! But if you do decide to I’ll be very happy to listen to one of my favorite scores with remastered sound!
I never unterstood why people give only one star… You are making the best work here and I think there a many people who think so too. Don’t bother the nay-sayers!
About the Loudness War versions: what are the differences besides higher volume and maybe a tad of compression? Any equalization?
Yared๏ฟฝs Troy????
Release it immediatly.
Even when it๏ฟฝs not longer, i need it. Please! ๐

Nope. No additional compression or EQ. Just higher gain (that includes brickwall limiting).

It’s not better, really not. Besides, I don’t have a cover.
Thanks for this Deluxe Edition!
Maybe you know it already, but if not, give Harry Gregson-William’s "Spy Game" soundtrack a try. There’s the same blend of synths and exotic instruments, and I love it as mush as "Prince of Persia".

Really? It has been more than 20 years since I saw that movie… and I don’t really remember the music. I’ll check it out ๐
Thank you for sharing another one of your deluxe editions. I always look forward to your releases and I ca’t wait to give this one a listen.
Second…
My opinion carries little weight around here but, I’d encourage you to release it. I’ve downloaded a few different version here and both sound heavily compressed and tiny. Even if yours offers the same musical content, any improvement in sound quality is welcome!
Thanks again for how you support this community and the time you give by creating this deluxe editions.
I’m a sucker as well for these kinds of scores… To me this is "feel good" music, and considering what I’ve been through lately, I need this!

Huh? Writing you a mail.
Will get you a Rep when it resets its self
thanks a lot …
