Vertiphon 2017 Remaster
This collection contains all tracks that comprise the soundtracks for the Sega Genesis game series Streets Of Rage by SEGA. These incredible 16-bit brawlers really need no introduction, but those of you that have tried to find the soundtracks in good quality audio have probably had very little luck. Not any more. 🙂 This is the second time I have remastered the music from these games, this time they sound far better. I am much happier with how all these masters sound so I will consider this my definitive release. In my opinion these also sound far better than all other versions available.
One of my goals with this endavor is to present to the community well-mastered Original Sound Version music of the greatest soundtracks video gaming has to offer. I have added some sympathetic mastering, made appropriate edits and rearranged the tracklist so that it makes for a better listen as an album. This is some of the very best music the Sega Genesis had to offer.
This collection does NOT in any way duplicate the audio from the following releases:
GMO Records "Bare Knuckle" ALCA-181: https://www.discogs.com/release/665962.
GMO Records "Bare Knuckle II" ALCA-443 / "Streets Of Rage 2 OST" Mars Colony Music MCM-10106-2: https://www.discogs.com/Yuzo-Koshiro-Bare-Knuckle-II/master/461975
And none of the DATA DISCS releases. It sounds better than all of them.
Edit:
This remaster DOES NOT replicate ANY of the audio from this new issue of the soundtrack by Wayo:
https://www.discogs.com/Yuzo-Koshiro-Streets-Of-Rage-Perfect-Soundtrack/release/11170738
The files are in 24-bit 44.1 kHz lossless FLAC audio / 320kbit/s format. Enjoy!
Note: As pointed out by rwszwszs I mistyped Motohiro Kawashima’s name in the file tags (and on the videos!). It is ima, not ira.

Find all my remasters here (Thread 220554).
really better than before (imo, there was a bit too much Bass in your old release to be honest)
very good indeed, now i must grab the others.
thanks man.
It’s very much appreciated!
edit: Just had a listen and all I can say is…. YOU FUCKING DID IT~ wow
Something that bothered me with for example youtube uploads from the SOR2 soundtrack and even the DATA Discs Remasters;
It doesn’t really sound that crisp.
I’ve uploaded the 3 soundtracks to my YouTube channel and I just recorded the vgm files with the latest vgm plugin with winamp.
No editing, just 2 loops and a fade out for the longer tracks, that’s it.
Just to compare some versions:
Youtube’s first hit when searching for streets of rage 2 go straight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC-B3Q0cRrY
Data discs 2016 remaster: https://soundcloud.com/datadiscs/streetsofrage2-gostraight-remastered
Vertiphon’s remaster: http://www102.zippyshare.com/v/60BX5hW4/file.html
My upload (as said, pure winamp recording, no editing): https://youtu.be/tBZDhWYQ10g?t=6m16s
If you listen to some other youtube versions for example, they all sound quite different.
For SOR2’s go straight track, the hat (if that’s the correct name) sounds different from the Mega Drive hardware.
In my YouTube upload the hat sounds correct (same as in-game).
Some uploads have huge bass kicks and lines and some have the hat sound in between the beat very bright.
I’m not an audio engineer myself and didn’t take the time to get into "mastering" these soundtracks so I wouldn’t know exactly,
but when I listen to the winamp recording, I to be honest think that sounds to most crisp and close to the original I suppose.

This was discussed before when I released my first remasters. My short answer to this topic then and now is: my remasters are not for purists. I’m going for "sonic overhaul" to get the best out of the music, not to retain the original listening experience. For that, definitely try other versions. There’s certainly something charming about listening to the crummy DACs of the Genesis/MD but I don’t think that’s how many of us want to listen to this music any more. But I absolutely agree that there should be choice.
The other issue with audio differences is this: the sound of the Yamaha YM2612 two-operator FM synthesis is very idiosyncratic. Different players recreate it differently, but the newest VGM players in Foobar2000 et al are extremely accurate. At this point the only differences are the substantial top end fall-off and additional noise due to the DACs and headphone amplifier in the Genesis. The music itself is otherwise rendered accurately.

Thank you for replying rw. I am not an expert on Streets of Rage the game itself, I just know the soundtrack of the original game inside out. I am not familiar with the OST CDs at all. Titles are always based upon Project VGM, but where appropriate I double check with soundtracks on Discogs and other places. If "BMG IV" (BGM…?) is not available in the game data, and is an exclusive to the official soundtrack, then it will remain so. I will not remaster commercially released audio CDs in most cases. I place the tracks in the order I feel fit to suit a "play through" or listen as an album. Feel free to reorganise them to your leisure.
And for those who have not seen already, I just released a collection of the Sega Genesis Sonic games: Thread 220748
I also noticed recently in the tags and in the thread that you misspelled Motohiro Kawashima’s name as Motohiro Kawashira.
Edit: I was unaware that Wayo released this edition of the SOR soundtrack, and based on the "Ancient" logo on the rear case it seems 100% official with Yuzo’s consent:
https://www.discogs.com/Yuzo-Koshiro-Streets-Of-Rage-Perfect-Soundtrack/release/11170738
I seriously doubt I’ll be touching any more of his soundtracks in future, in this case. I wouldn’t mind if they’d have contacted me and asked me to take it down, I would have done so immediately.
(Frankly though, based on the youtube preview, this new CD sounds rather… average?)
I uploaded the SOR1 Soundtrack (ripped from vgm to wav with winamp) to my channel.
I tried to explain this was not the version from wayo since I’ve ripped it myself and at that point the wayo version wasn’t even released yet.
Kinda weird.. but (as sort of expected) the video didn’t get approved to get back up.
Maybe I’ll try to reupload the OST at some point, after my strike’s gone in march of 2018.
still, superweird that they chose specific uploads of the SOR1 music and not other ones.
The SOR2 and SOR3 soundtrack are still up tough.. hope that’ll stay like that
Asking because Go Straight from SoR2 in your upload is the exact same, which was ripped incorrectly in the first place (the tune that plays at exactly the 2 minute mark is supposed to be different from how it plays at the 30 second mark of the track).
The rip is from 2014 so I thought it would be pretty accurate.
I recorded them to wav with the latest in_vgm (0.48 if i’m correct?)
Is there any more accurate rip available?

You’d hope people would inform the site and fix that. If there are any more issues I might create an update pack that features fixed / missing tracks. It would be helpful if we could put together a list of inaccuracies and missing tracks from the p2162 rip.
