Is the FLAC really lossless?

One thing I know, I won’t be chucking my copy at 320 out just yet.

I originally downloaded this as MP3 and then converted it to FLAC, so the source was not lossless. I’m really not all that familiar with FLAC format but see that it’s popular here. Is there a better way to convert MP3s to FLAC? Should they be 320Hz or 480Hz? Or is it not even worth converting them to FLAC?

Unless you are manipulating a lossy source in an audio editor (i.e. altering the waveform), there’s no reason whatsoever to transcode to lossless. Just leave it as it is.

Period.

There’s no going back to lossless from lossy. You’re just creating bigger file sizes.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll stop converting formats.
