Yes, of course it was lossy, as most ISOs are, but then ripping to lossy (regardless the quality of the codec) only further denudes it of audio data. There’s no such thing as 1:1 lossy compression because a lossy codec is specifically designed to remove "discrete" audio signals in order to minimize file size. In effect, the music source was compressed twice, once for inclusion as an ISO score on the DVD or Blu-ray, and then once again by clayhenry52 when he ripped the ISO.
Ripping to a lossless format preserves the original bitrate data of the ISO, whether it’s lossy or losssless.
