INFORMATION:
SURPRISE! VERSION 2.0 IS NOW LIVE!: I am so pleased to share that almost two years after the original version of one of my favorite and most successful rips, I have remade the entire album from scratch using newer techniques and making tons of small changes to improve the album. It’s the called the definitive soundtrack for a reason, so I wanted to make sure I kept good on such a bold title 😀
This new version includes:
*Better ripping: Meaning, cleaner conversion than I was previously capable of.
*Better Volume: It is MUCH louder now, while maintaining the original’s quality and volume balance.
*Better/New ‘Special Mix’: Much like the original album, think "slightly enhanced". If you liked my most recent Smash Ultimate (the newest one, not the one with the atrocious reverb), Pokemon USUM, or Senran Kagura rips, you will be right at home here.
*Cut "Main Theme" so it no longer has the awkward loop: It plays one time, and you can press that good ol’ repeat track button if you want to listen to it endlessly.
*Higher quality "Beyond the Sky" and "Epilogue" tracks
*Slightly smaller file sizes for the MP3 V0 version (thanks, LAME 3.10!)
I hope everyone who has shown so much love and support for the original version of this rip will love this new version, and that many new people will still find this album for years to come. Thanks so much, everyone! 😀
Check the spoiler below for more detailed information and the original release notes.
[U]RIPPING AND EQ-ING: It went through (no lie) six different rips/eq jobs, and I just couldn’t get it right. I’d think I had something down great only to come back the next day and realize, "What was I thinking!" and then try something else. Throughout this trial and error process though, I believe I have found the perfect way to experience this soundtrack. Have no fear, after learning the hard way from several bad eq jobs I did, I re-ripped the game and found a VERY minimal ‘special mix’ that brings out the songs’ potential just enough, without really altering the way they sound. Think "slightly enhanced" and not "remastered and reworked". Please note that ALL songs in this rip were ripped directly from the ADX files from the Wii game (NOT the compressed 3DS sound files), using ripping programs/plugins, with the exception of "Beyond the Sky" which was taken from an official soundtrack due to the better sound quality. Additionally, songs loop like a traditional gamerip: play twice and then fade.
TAGGING: Tagging was also quite a chore, with this being one of the only games ever without an ordered gamerip or official soundtrack (the official soundtrack has everything categorized (ex. area themes, cutscene themes, etc all grouped together), which I guess some people may like, but I personally did not). I literally went and referenced my personal copy of the game and spent numerous hours watching/skimming a walkthrough of the game, listening carefully for the order of the songs. But alas! I got all the songs ordered the way they are first heard in game, with a few exceptions that I just felt were right (moving "Engage the Enemy" to later even though it’s heard earlier in the game, moving Riki’s theme to play after Frontier Village, even though you hear his theme LONG before you meet him, etc.). In regards to the songs with official English names, as a rule of thumb I did not use them. Most of the names are from the literal Japanese translation most people accept/are used to, but all of the songs containing the name of an area or character were changed to the English name of said area or character (ex. In this rip there is no more "Xanthe". It is changed to Zanza, because duh). I did make a few exceptions though, like with the widely accepted English names like "You Will Know Our Names" and "Engage the Enemy" being named with that name, not the literal Japanese translation.
ALBUM ART: In addition to this, I tried a little something new with my album art this time around, and have included four alternate covers in the zip folder. The art applied to the album out-of-the-box is just my personal favorite one (and the one shown above). You can check out all of the included arts (no Monado pun intended :P) here: http://tenfty.blogspot.com/2017/05/xenoblade-arts.html
All art was made, with love, by me, so I hope you can find one that suits your liking! 🙂
ABOUT THE SUPPLEMENTARY TRACKS: This album is MASSIVE, which makes sense because this is a MASSIVE game, so I decided to split the album into two parts (both parts are available in FLAC and MP3 V0). The first part, the primary one, is the main album. This features 95 songs, all of them that are heard in-game, and they are all ordered as stated above (the order you hear them when playing the game). The second part, aka the supplementary one, is a ‘small’ collection of all the unused tracks and variations of in-game tracks. The supplementary album is fully featured, is tagged in the exact same way as the rest of the album, and can be placed with the rest of the album easily. Meaning, the tracks in the supplementary album are tracks 96-101, and are tagged as such. My reasoning for this is that most people probably do not want these songs, so I simply separated them for their convenience. Simply download the supplementary pack and move the files into the main album folder, and they will be placed at the end of the normal album.
Be sure to let me know if you have any questions or comments, and, as always, enjoy the rip! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Edit : This only needs a tracklist so people have more reasons to download your work

Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoy this so much.
I’ll work on getting a tracklist haha
EDIT: Tracklist Added
Sweet! I actually don’t have a Wii U… (still lol)
But I may have to check it out sometime for the awesome music alone. Glad you and everybody else enjoys the rip!
(Also I like the Reyn quote at the beginning there.. hahaha)
Also: Added a tracklist
What does this offer that the original soundtrack (http://vgmdb.net/album/18946) doesn’t?
Thanks! And nice cover, btw :).

It is all detailed in the OP… XD
Fully looping gamerip, slight eq for a better sound, proper tagging, proper ordering (order you hear them in the game), etc.

Hey, thanks a bunch for your reply. This kind of stuff is so great to see, and you don’t see it very often. In addition, I’m super glad people are still finding this and enjoying it, that’s all that I could ask for and more when I uploaded it. Thanks to all the other people who have replied to this as well. Love y’all!

Oh I did read that but still wasn’t sure. I was under the impression that the official soundtrack would have a much better quality than music files from the Wii. I was not aware Wii was even able to play music at a quality comparable to CDs. I guess those ADX files are that high quality? I never knew.
The ADX files on the Wii aren’t necessarily any better (from a numbers standpoint they are indeed lower quality, but both the official soundtrack and in-game files are at a point where it is incredibly hard to tell the two apart), but, like any gamerip, it’s all in the way it is ripped and edited. I did a lot of work to get mine to sound like (or, in my opinion, better than) an official soundtrack, regardless of the actual bitrates and technical stats of the source files I was working with.
It should also be noted that many official game soundtracks appear to be ‘recorded’ the same way us on here get the music (by ripping it from the game) instead of from the original masters, and I believe Xenoblade might be one of those games. I say this because, despite the very good technical quality (FLAC or WAV), the official soundtrack can still sound a bit soft or muddled at times; a problem which I largely avoided with my rip.
From a technical standpoint, the files in-game weren’t better quality, but I have given them the illusion of being higher, studio quality songs
Of course, this is all completely subjective, so the best way for any given person to figure out if the quality is up-to-snuff for them is to listen to it themselves and decide. You might prefer the sound of the official soundtrack, you might prefer the sound of mine, as everyone has different ears and different criteria for what sounds ‘good’. I will say though that the files used to make this rip are of very high quality for a video game, and are well past the threshold of sounding just good, so, even if I ripped them raw, it would be hard to tell them apart from the official soundtrack.
You’ll have to compare the two and let me know what you think!
You’re welcome!
Yup, sure was. I didn’t make anything quieter (like I did on the first rip) this time, I just made some things a bit louder when I could. Many songs are the same volume as they are in-game though. Also, the volume is now pretty much in line with other gamerips from around here. The official soundtrack might be a tad louder in some places, but I’m not sure. It definitely depends on the song, and should also be noted that the beginning of each track (especially for the area themes and main theme) usually starts off pretty quietly, and gradually crescendos as it reaches the climax of the song. Take the first track, the Main Theme, for example: it ALWAYS seems too quiet when you first start it, but by the middle of the song the volume is very loud and in your face. I actually really like this, as too much audio these days lacks the dynamic contrast on display here, but it comes with the caveat of not being able to make the songs any louder, as the loud parts are at their volume limit long before the quiet parts are, so the quiet parts will forever be quieter.
Anyways yeah, it’s about as high as it will go unless I want to enter dynamic range compressing territory which I really don’t want and don’t know how to properly do, and that would harm the overall quality of the rip and sacrifice the artistic vision the sound designers and arrangers had in mind when they were producing the songs.
Either way though, it is one of those things where it simply is what it is, and you can always reach for that volume knob and crank it up a bit if you feel the need; as I always say, Play it Loud!
My secret? Years of practice and experimentation.
Well, it’s definitely paid off. Thanks!
